American Express Introduces Innovative Airport Lounge Concept 'Sidecar'

American Express has announced the launch of a new airport lounge concept named 'Sidecar,' aimed at enhancing the travel experience for its cardholders. Set to debut in Las Vegas in 2026, this unique lounge will cater specifically to travelers who require quick access to premium amenities before their flights. The introduction of Sidecar comes amid a growing demand for airport lounge access, particularly as travel resumes post-pandemic. According to Audrey Hendley, President of American Express Travel, 'Many of our visitors spend less than an hour in our Lounges, and we've created Sidecar specifically for them.' American Express aims to address the overcrowding and limited access that many travelers face with this new offering, which will make the company the only credit card issuer with two lounges at Las Vegas's Harry Reid International Airport.

The Centurion Lounge, which first opened in Las Vegas in 2013, has long been a popular destination for American Express cardholders. The Sidecar lounge will allow eligible members, including Platinum Card holders, to enjoy complimentary access within 90 minutes of their departure. The lounge's design is inspired by speakeasies, emphasizing a more intimate atmosphere for travelers looking for a quick bite or drink.

In addition to this new lounge concept, American Express has also expanded its culinary offerings through 'The Culinary Collective,' featuring menus designed by acclaimed chefs such as Mashama Bailey, Sarah Grueneberg, Kwame Onwuachi, and Mike Solomonov. These chefs, recognized for their contributions to American cuisine, will provide a diverse array of dishes in the Centurion lounges across the United States. For example, Onwuachi will offer Suya Short Ribs and Tamarind Ice Box Cake, while Bailey will present gluten-friendly Paprika Chicken and Espresso Crème Brûlée.

Bar Director Harrison Ginsberg, known for his innovative cocktail creations, will also curate a selection of cocktails that complement the chefs' dishes. Among the offerings is 'The Centurion,' a vodka-based cocktail featuring yuzu, soda, and lime, alongside a non-alcoholic option called 'The Green Tea Tonic.' This culinary initiative aims to provide travelers with a unique dining experience, bringing the talents of top chefs from across the country into the airport setting.

American Express's strategic move to launch Sidecar reflects the company’s commitment to adapting to changing consumer needs in a post-pandemic landscape. With travel returning to pre-pandemic levels, the demand for high-quality, accessible lounge experiences has never been greater. As the hospitality industry continues to evolve, American Express is positioning itself at the forefront of enhancing customer experiences in the airport environment. The Sidecar lounge will not only serve as a refuge for hurried travelers but also as a showcase of culinary excellence, setting a new standard for airport lounges worldwide.
