The BBVA Group has been awarded the title of Latin America’s Best Digital Bank at the prestigious Euromoney Awards for Excellence ceremony held on July 18, 2025, in London. This recognition is part of a remarkable achievement where BBVA secured a total of 13 awards, highlighting its significant contributions to the banking sector across various nations, including Mexico, Peru, Spain, and Turkey.
BBVA’s success in Latin America is underscored by its strong digital presence, serving approximately 57 million customers with a mobile penetration rate of 75%. The bank’s innovative approaches in artificial intelligence (AI), open banking, and financial inclusion were pivotal in securing this honor. According to Euromoney, a leading financial publication, BBVA’s advancements in digital banking were complemented by a robust cybersecurity infrastructure, ensuring customer safety and trust in an increasingly digital environment.
In Mexico, BBVA was not only recognized as the Best Digital Bank but also received accolades for Best Investment Bank and Best Bank for Sustainable Finance. Jorge Sáenz-Azcúnaga, Global Head of Country Monitoring at BBVA, remarked that these awards are indicative of the bank’s commitment to investing decisively in the region, targeting over 100 billion pesos in investments over the next five years. This strategic emphasis on sustainability and digital leadership positions BBVA as a cornerstone of the banking system in Mexico, where it has over 30 million customers.
The accolades extended beyond Latin America, with BBVA being named Europe’s Best Bank for Large Corporates. This award reflects the bank’s successful advisory model and its evolution into a strategic partner for large European corporations. Leyre Mena, Head of BBVA CIB Continental Europe, stated, "At BBVA, we support our customers not only as bankers, but as drivers of their long-term transformation."
In Spain, BBVA was recognized for its exceptional customer experience, coinciding with the launch of a revamped corporate identity and a redesigned mobile application aimed at enhancing user experience. Gonzalo Rodríguez, Head of Retail Banking in Spain, emphasized that prioritizing customer needs is fundamental to BBVA’s strategy.
Garanti BBVA, the Group’s Turkish subsidiary, also received accolades, being named Central and Eastern Europe’s Best Bank for Sustainable Finance and Best Bank for Diversity & Inclusion.
