Edinburgh, Scotland – On a sweltering summer day, drivers arriving at Edinburgh Airport are increasingly utilizing laybys along Eastfield Road to avoid the airport's escalating drop-off fees. The airport charges £6 for a ten-minute stay in its designated drop-off zone, with an additional charge of £1 for every minute beyond that time limit. The free drop-off area at Edinburgh Airport is located approximately half a mile from the terminal, posing challenges for those with mobility issues. Sheila McPheely, 79, plans to use this free option to collect her sisters, who have mobility difficulties. She criticized the charges, labeling them as "appalling" and indicative of greed, especially considering the costs associated with air travel.

Taxi drivers have also felt the impact of these fees. Dean Carse, a 31-year-old taxi driver, stated that the drop-off charge effectively adds £6 to each fare, which he must recoup from his customers. "It’s ridiculous; it goes from the customer to me to the airport," he remarked, calling the charges a financial burden on both drivers and passengers.

Edinburgh Airport has not provided comments regarding the criticisms but maintains that a free drop-off option is available.
