At David Jones, Chris Wilson, Executive General Manager of Menswear, observes a gradual evolution over the past six years. "The male customer is definitely moving on from a trend point of view, but it's still slow and steady," he remarked. The preferences of Australian men remain largely traditional, with brands like RM Williams and Rodd & Gunn continuing to dominate the market.

Morrow's collection straddles the line between classic and contemporary, appealing to a niche market of men seeking both style and comfort. His standout piece, the Dry jacket, reinterprets traditional outback coats with modern sensibilities. "It’s a super versatile nod to that Australian heritage that is modern and more fashion," Morrow explained.

However, the financial implications of launching a new menswear brand in Australia are daunting. Morrow has opted to sell exclusively online, eschewing wholesale distribution amid economic uncertainty that has affected many local brands. The recent closure of Haulier International, which had garnered acclaim for its innovative designs, underscores these challenges. Founded by Jeremy Hershan, Haulier's hibernation in April 2025 highlights the volatility within the menswear sector.

Unisex brand The Tales, launched just six months ago, is also navigating the complexities of the menswear market. Founder Rachael D’Alessandro revealed that approximately 90% of their customers are women, leading the brand to pivot more towards womenswear. "We believed there shouldn’t be strict boundaries between menswear and womenswear," D’Alessandro stated, emphasizing the brand's commitment to inclusivity and experimentation.

As the Australian menswear landscape continues to evolve, there is a growing recognition of the need for brands to adapt to shifting consumer preferences. While the traditional male customer remains averse to bold fashion statements, a segment of the market is ripe for exploration and innovation. Morrow's focus on elegance and quality may resonate with those seeking to redefine their style without sacrificing comfort or tradition.
