Former Today Show Host Alex Cullen Lists Summer Hill Home for Rent

Alex Cullen, the former sports presenter of the Today Show, has placed his Summer Hill Federation home on the rental market as he relocates to Melbourne. The charming 1912 Queen Anne Federation home, known as Kironga, has recently seen its asking rent adjusted from $1,800 to $1,700 per week after just one week on the market. This comes as Cullen prepares to join Christian O’Connell’s Gold 104.3 breakfast radio show, a position he is enthusiastic about despite recent challenges.

The decision to rent comes after Cullen was let go by Nine Entertainment in January 2025, following controversy surrounding a $50,000 gift he accepted from Adrian Portelli, a prominent figure in the real estate and entertainment industries. This incident has drawn significant media attention, with O’Connell humorously addressing the circumstances surrounding Cullen's hiring on air.

According to Kristian Lovicu, a leasing agent from Harris Tripp, the property features four bedrooms and two bathrooms, along with a rear yard that boasts lemon and avocado trees. Cullen and his wife, Bonnie, originally purchased the property for $1.9 million in 2020, marketed then as a renovation project. This family-friendly home is situated in a sought-after area, which typically sees strong rental demand.

However, the current rental market presents challenges, as evidenced by nearby properties struggling to secure tenants. A five-bedroom bungalow on Rosemount Ave, for instance, has remained unsold for 75 days at an asking price of $1,750 per week. Data from PropTrack indicates that there were only ten four-bedroom lettings in the past year, with a median market duration of 33 days.

Cullen expressed excitement about his new position, stating, “I actually started my career in radio, so to be coming back to it and joining a show that’s so loved and so full of heart is a real thrill. I can’t wait to be on air with Christian, Pats, and Rio, and to get to know Melbourne.” With this transition, Cullen looks forward to an exciting new chapter in his professional life while navigating the complexities of the real estate market in Sydney.
