McBurney, DFDS, and Amazon Relay Forge Sustainable Logistics Partnership

In a significant move towards sustainable logistics, McBurney Transport Group, part of DFDS, has established a collaborative partnership with Amazon Relay. This initiative aims to decarbonize road freight operations across Europe while enhancing efficiency in transportation. Shane O'Donnell, Divisional Director at McBurney Transport Group, emphasized the importance of sustainability, stating, "Sustainability is very important to us here at McBurney Transport Group. Through our collaboration with Amazon Relay, we absolutely feel empowered to achieve our goals."

Founded in Ireland and with expanding operations across Europe, McBurney is integrating innovative solutions to bolster its sustainability efforts. The collaboration with Amazon Relay has allowed McBurney to significantly enhance its fleet with low-emission vehicles, including a recent addition of a new electric heavy goods vehicle (HGV). Oliver Lilley, Director of Business Development & Decarbonised Solutions at DFDS, noted, "The new electric HGV joins our existing fleet of 145 electric HGVs on the road across Europe. Because of the access to lanes through Amazon Relay, it’s already connecting operations across Manchester, Liverpool, and Ireland."

The logistics landscape is evolving, with companies like McBurney prioritizing decarbonization. As Gary Wood, Business Development Manager at McBurney, explained, "Decarbonizing logistics is a tough challenge. It requires long-term thinking, bold investments, and strong collaboration. It’s one we acknowledge we’re not going to achieve on our own."

The operational framework allows McBurney to optimize routes within a close radius to the Liverpool port, which enhances operational efficiency. O'Donnell highlighted that "everything we do is within an hour and a half radius of the Liverpool port, which means over a 24-hour period, one truck can do three to four loads."

Looking to the future, the partnership with Amazon Relay is set to scale, with plans to add more trucks to the existing lanes. "The more we grow our relationship with Amazon Relay, the more trucks we can add to these existing lanes in the future," said Wood.

Amazon Relay provides carriers with a suite of services that facilitates growth in their transportation businesses, offering features like Short-Term Contracts and a loadboard that grants access to Amazon’s spot work. This innovative platform is crucial for companies aiming to secure consistent revenue and streamline operations.

In conclusion, the collaboration between McBurney Transport Group and Amazon Relay illustrates a promising model for sustainable logistics, highlighting that concerted efforts and partnerships can lead to significant advancements in reducing emissions in the transport sector. As O'Donnell concluded, "Through this collaboration with Amazon Relay, we want to reduce our emissions and be at the center of driving positive change together."
