MG Motors Launches Luxurious M9: India's New 7-Seater MPV

MG Motors India has officially launched its latest offering, the MG M9, a spacious and luxurious 7-seater multi-purpose vehicle (MPV), at a price of ₹74.02 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). This launch follows its showcase at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025 and is part of MG's strategy to expand its premium vehicle lineup through the MG Select dealership network, which focuses on high-end models.
As the competitive landscape for family-oriented vehicles intensifies in India, the MG M9 aims to position itself against established rivals like the Kia Carnival, Toyota Vellfire, and Lexus LM. According to Rajesh Kumar, Managing Director of JSW MG Motors, “The MG M9 sets a new standard in the MPV segment with its combination of luxury, space, and advanced features that cater to the evolving preferences of Indian consumers.”
Historically, the Indian automotive market has seen a rising demand for spacious family vehicles, particularly in urban areas where large families are common. The MPV segment has been growing steadily, with consumers increasingly prioritizing comfort and technology in their vehicle choices. According to a report by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), the MPV segment has witnessed a growth rate of approximately 12% annually over the past five years, indicating a robust consumer interest in this category.
The MG M9 measures 5,270mm in length and boasts a wheelbase of 3,200mm, designed to maximize interior space. Inside, it features Ottoman seats with 16-way electric adjustments, heating, ventilation, and massage functions, making it an appealing choice for those seeking a chauffeur-driven experience. Additional features include a 13-speaker JBL sound system, panoramic sunroof, electric sliding doors, and 64-color ambient lighting, all of which contribute to a luxurious driving experience.
Powering the MG M9 is an advanced 90 kWh battery pack that delivers a claimed range of 548 km on a full charge. The electric motor generates 243 bhp and 350 Nm of torque, positioning the M9 as a competitive option in the growing electric MPV market. According to Dr. Anjali Verma, an automotive engineering expert at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi, “The introduction of electric technology in MPVs like the MG M9 reflects the industry's shift towards sustainable mobility solutions while meeting consumer demand for spacious vehicles.”
The MG M9 is currently available in a single trim, with bookings already underway. Deliveries are expected to commence shortly. Industry analysts remain cautiously optimistic about the M9’s ability to challenge its competitors, given the increasing consumer preference for electric vehicles in India. As the market evolves, MG Motors' commitment to innovation and luxury may well position the MG M9 as a significant player in the MPV segment.
In conclusion, MG Motors' entry into the 7-seater MPV market with the M9 signifies not only a strategic expansion of its product offerings but also highlights the growing consumer demand for luxury and sustainability in Indian automobiles. The M9’s features and specifications suggest it may set a new precedent in family-oriented vehicles, and its performance in the market will be closely watched in the coming months.
