Samsung's Solve for Tomorrow Empowers Young Innovators in Tripura

In a groundbreaking initiative, Samsung has launched the fourth season of its flagship innovation competition, 'Solve for Tomorrow,' which aims to empower young minds in India, particularly in the northeastern state of Tripura. On June 9, 2025, Samsung announced that it would allocate INR 1 crore to the top four winning teams to support the incubation of their innovative projects. This initiative not only provides financial backing but also offers expert mentorship from Samsung leaders and faculty members from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi, enhancing the participants' prospects for success.

The 'Solve for Tomorrow' program is designed to foster a culture of problem-solving and innovation among students, encouraging them to address some of India’s most pressing challenges. The recent launch on April 29, 2025, saw a series of design thinking workshops and open houses that reached beyond metropolitan areas, penetrating the vibrant heartlands of Northeast India. The response in Tripura has been particularly noteworthy, with two colleges, Bir Bikram Memorial College and Netaji Subhash Mahavidyalaya, witnessing a surge of interest from students eager to develop solutions to local issues.

Among the participants, Tarit Chakma, a second-year student at Bir Bikram Memorial College, expressed his determination to tackle water logging issues in tribal areas through low-cost drainage technology. His ambition reflects a growing trend among students who are beginning to see their local problems as opportunities for innovation. Similarly, Sangeeta Dey, a science undergraduate, aims to create an anonymous digital mental health assistant that caters to local dialects, starting with Kokborok, to address the rising mental health crisis among youth in smaller towns.

At Netaji Subhash Mahavidyalaya, students like Sourav Shukladas are also inspired by the program. Shukladas has been conceptualizing a wearable device that alerts family members and local clinics in case of sudden health issues among the elderly in his village. He remarked, "This platform gave me the confidence that such ideas can be built right here, from Tripura, for the world." His classmate, Sangeeta Saha, articulated a vision for transforming Tripura into a hub of social innovation, focusing on eco-tourism models that empower local artisans while protecting the environment.

The overarching mission of Samsung's 'Solve for Tomorrow' initiative is to democratize innovation, reaching out to every young mind with potential, irrespective of geographical limitations. As the program progresses through its fourth season, it is clear that it represents more than just a competition; it is a call to action for a generation ready to reimagine India through innovative solutions.

The initiative's impact resonates from the narrow bylanes of Agartala to the sprawling innovation hubs of cities like Delhi and Bangalore. The enthusiasm and creativity displayed by students in Tripura underscore a promising future where local talent can thrive and contribute meaningfully to society. Samsung's commitment to nurturing young innovators in India may very well catalyze the emergence of a new wave of problem-solvers who can address the unique challenges faced by their communities, fostering sustainable growth and development across the region.

As the program continues to evolve, it will be interesting to observe how these young innovators translate their ideas into tangible solutions, potentially impacting not only their local communities but also contributing to broader national objectives. With the support of established institutions like Samsung and IIT Delhi, the future of innovation in Tripura appears bright, filled with potential and promise.
