Crunchyroll Unveils New Trailers for 'Frieren: Beyond Journey's End'

Crunchyroll has recently unveiled a new teaser trailer for the highly anticipated second season of "Frieren: Beyond Journey's End" during Anime Expo, alongside the premiere of the new series "Gachiakuta". The event took place on Friday, July 5, 2025, where key creatives from both projects presented their insights to an enthusiastic audience.

Yuichiro Fukushi, the producer of "Frieren", confirmed that the production of the second season is currently underway, with plans for a January 2026 release. He highlighted the challenges faced during the production of the first season, which consisted of 28 episodes, a larger volume than most anime seasons typically contain. "Every episode told a poignant story, and my aim was to allocate resources effectively to maintain this quality," Fukushi stated.

Accompanying Fukushi at the panel were voice actor Chiaki Kobayashi, who plays Stark, and composer Evan Call. Kobayashi performed a live reading from an episode of the first season, while Call elaborated on his approach to composing the music for the series. He emphasized his desire for the score to serve as an additional character within the narrative, enhancing the emotional depth of the story. "My musical roots in bluegrass influenced my composition style, aiming to resonate with the story's sentimental themes," Call remarked, discussing how specific musical choices were made to reflect character emotions.

The narrative of "Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End" follows an elf mage on a profound journey to reunite with her former comrades after their heroic battle against the Demon King. The show's unique premise has resonated with audiences, leading to its continued popularity.

In addition to "Frieren", Crunchyroll introduced "Gachiakuta" during the event. This new series, set in a dystopian world, follows a character from the slums of a floating city who must team up with a group of "Cleaners" to combat monstrous creatures formed from discarded waste. The panel featured insights from Kei Urana, the creator, and Hideyoshi Andou, the graffiti artist, who discussed the collaborative process and the unique aspects of adapting the manga into an anime format. "We have crafted scenes specifically for the anime that cannot be expressed in the manga, which we believe will captivate the audience," Amano, a producer at Studio Bones stated.

The first two episodes of "Gachiakuta" were screened at Anime Expo and simultaneously broadcasted in 15 international cities, including France, Brazil, Germany, Italy, Mexico, and India. This global outreach is part of Crunchyroll’s strategy to enhance international engagement with its anime offerings.

Following the successful conclusion of "The Apothecary Diaries" season two in Japan, Crunchyroll announced that the series would also receive a sequel. This series follows the journey of a young woman navigating intrigue in the imperial palace, leveraging her medical knowledge to survive in a treacherous environment.

The ongoing expansion of Crunchyroll’s anime portfolio signifies a robust commitment to the genre and its global fanbase. As the platform continues to innovate and diversify its offerings, it seeks to maintain its position as a leader in the anime industry, catering to an ever-growing audience eager for fresh content.
