F4 Boy Band Surprises Fans with Reunion at Mayday Concert in Taiwan

In a moment that delighted thousands of fans, Taiwanese boy band F4 made a surprise reunion at the concert of popular rock band Mayday in Taiwan on Saturday. The event, held at the Taipei Arena, drew an audience of approximately 40,000 concertgoers, who were thrilled to hear F4 perform their iconic ballad "Meteor Rain". This song, which served as the theme for the 2001 TV drama "Meteor Garden", catapulted the quartet—comprising Jerry Yan, Vanness Wu, Vic Chou, and Ken Chu—to stardom in the early 2000s.

"Meteor Garden", based on the Japanese manga series "Boys Over Flowers", not only captured the hearts of millions across Asia but also popularized the 'idol drama' genre in the region. The series focused on the life of a working-class girl, played by Barbie Hsu, who navigates her way through a school dominated by four wealthy and arrogant boys, known as the F4. The immense success of the show led to several adaptations across Asia, including Japan’s "Hana Yori Dango" in 2005 and South Korea’s "Boys Over Flowers" in 2009.

F4, originally formed around the same time as the series debuted, disbanded in 2009 but reunited for a one-off performance during the 2013 Spring Festival Gala in China. Their reunion at the Mayday concert was particularly poignant, as it marked the first time all four members performed together again in public since then. Mayday’s frontman, Ashin, expressed the challenges they faced in orchestrating this reunion. "It took us years to gather all four members again; everyone overcame a lot of obstacles to make this picture a reality," Ashin stated during the concert.

The reunion evoked nostalgia among fans, as many took to social media to express their excitement and longing for a full F4 concert. One fan commented, "OMG!! Thank you Mayday!! My childhood is alive. It’s crazy seeing F4 perform again!" Another remarked, "Are you crying already... because we are! Hello to the inner child in you jumping up and down because F4 just reunited! Tour soon? We hope!"

In a heartfelt address, Yan thanked Mayday for facilitating the reunion and shared his gratitude for the support from fans. "This is something I could not have imagined would happen again in my lifetime. It’s also made us reminisce about our youth," he said. Wu echoed these sentiments, expressing appreciation to the audience for sharing the moment with them.

As the members of F4 are now all in their 40s and remain active in the entertainment industry, there are growing calls from fans for a full concert tour. Taiwan’s Mirror Media reported earlier that F4 is expected to hold a concert next year to commemorate the 25th anniversary of their debut, although this information has yet to be confirmed by the artists or their management teams.

The anticipation and excitement surrounding F4’s reunion reflect the enduring legacy of their music and the impact of "Meteor Garden" on popular culture in Asia. As fans await confirmation of future performances, the recent concert serves as a reminder of the powerful bond between artists and their audience, one that transcends time and continues to inspire nostalgia and joy.
