Guinness World Records Unveils 2025 ICONS: Trailblazers of History

On July 8, 2025, Guinness World Records introduced its annual lineup of ICONS—individuals who have made remarkable contributions to history through record-breaking achievements. This year’s selection includes an eclectic mix of adventurers, artists, and record-holders who have inspired millions through their extraordinary feats.
The significance of the ICONS list lies not only in the records themselves but also in the stories of perseverance and innovation that each individual represents. According to Craig Glenday, CEO of Guinness World Records, "These remarkable individuals exemplify the spirit of human achievement, pushing boundaries and inspiring others to follow in their footsteps."
Among the honorees is Preet Chandi, known as Polar Preet, a polar explorer who recently completed the longest and fastest solo unsupported one-way polar ski journey in history. Chandi, who skied for an average of 13 hours a day while carrying a 75-kg sledge, accomplished this monumental task in just 31 days, 13 hours, and 19 minutes. As she emphasizes, “Take it one step at a time; you can do it. Don’t give up!”
Another pair of record-holders who have captured the public's imagination are Rumeysa Gelgi and Jyoti Amge, recognized as the tallest and shortest women in the world, respectively. Gelgi, from Türkiye, stands at an impressive 215.16 cm (7 ft 0.7 in), while Amge, hailing from India, measures only 62.8 cm (2 ft 0.7 in). Their recent meeting, which underscored their friendship, serves as a powerful reminder that differences can foster connection. Gelgi advises, “Every disadvantage can be turned into an advantage for yourself, so accept yourself for who you are.”
Popular culture is also represented in this year’s ICONS with music superstar Taylor Swift, who has amassed over 100 world records. Swift’s impact extends beyond her musical achievements, as she encourages her fans with the message: “No matter what happens in life, be good to people. Being good to people is a wonderful legacy to leave behind.”
Additionally, the legacy of Robert Wadlow, the tallest man ever recorded at 8 ft 11 in (2.72 m), continues to inspire awe. Known as the “Giant of Illinois,” Wadlow’s life story from the 1930s remains a testament to overcoming adversity. Despite his challenges, he never allowed his condition to define him.
Finally, the iconic toy Barbie also makes the list, holding records for both the most expensive doll sold at auction—fetching $302,500—and the largest collection of Barbie dolls, numbering 18,500, owned by Bettina Dorfmann from Germany. Barbie’s enduring motto, “You can be anything!” encapsulates the message of empowerment that resonates with generations.
The 2025 ICONS exemplify human resilience, creativity, and the unyielding pursuit of excellence. Their stories serve not only as records in a book but as inspiration for future generations to dream big and aspire to greatness. As Glenday notes, the narratives of these individuals will continue to inspire and motivate others to push their limits and achieve their own remarkable feats.
