Joe Locke Set to Debut in West End Play 'Clarkston' This Autumn

Joe Locke, renowned for his role in the hit Netflix series 'Heartstopper', is poised to make his West End debut in the play 'Clarkston', which will showcase two young men forming a bond during night shifts at a Costco in rural Washington. This highly anticipated production, written by acclaimed playwright Samuel D. Hunter, is set to launch in the autumn of 2024, although the venue and specific dates have yet to be announced.

Locke, a 21-year-old actor who has gained recognition for portraying complex characters, expressed his excitement about stepping onto this prestigious stage. 'Clarkston' centers around the lives of Chris, a Costco employee grappling with a strained relationship with his mother, and Jake, a young gay man from Connecticut suffering from Huntington's disease. The play delves into themes of class, identity, and the nuances of male friendship.

Samuel D. Hunter, known for his award-winning play 'The Whale', created 'Clarkston' based on his experiences in the American West. 'The play is fundamentally about friendship and platonic male love, which we don’t see enough of in the arts,' Hunter stated. The portrayal of male relationships in a platonic context is a pivotal aspect of the narrative, as both characters navigate their vulnerabilities amid the backdrop of their work environment.
