Telangana CM Revanth Reddy Backs Tollywood to Propel $3 Trillion Vision

Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has called upon the Telugu film industry, commonly referred to as Tollywood, to unite and contribute to Telangana's ambitious goal of achieving a $3 trillion economy by 2047. Speaking at the inaugural Telangana Gaddar Film Awards (TGFA) ceremony held at Hitex in Hyderabad on June 14, 2025, Reddy emphasized the importance of collaboration between the government and the film industry.
Reddy acknowledged that the government may sometimes appear strict, but he maintained that such measures are taken for the industry's development. He urged industry leaders to prepare a comprehensive development plan and submit it for government support, ensuring that all necessary resources would be made available.
The Chief Minister reflected on the historical significance of cinema in Telangana, recalling the establishment of the Nandi Awards in 1964 by the Congress government and lamenting the absence of film awards for the past 14 years, attributing this neglect to previous administrations.
"I will be in active politics for another 22 years, and regardless of my position, I will continue to support the growth of Telugu cinema," Reddy stated, highlighting his commitment to the industry’s future.
Reddy also remarked on Hyderabad's status as the epicenter of the Indian film industry, asserting that the Telugu film industry has become a vital component of it. He called on stakeholders to elevate their standards to match international benchmarks, further integrating the film industry into Telangana's broader economic development narrative.
The Chief Minister's remarks come at a time when the film industry is navigating various challenges, including the impact of digital streaming platforms and changing consumer preferences. By fostering a collaborative environment, Reddy aims to enhance the industry’s resilience and adaptability.
The TGFA ceremony also paid tribute to Gaddar, a revolutionary balladeer whose legacy symbolizes the cultural richness of Telangana. The event marks a renewed recognition of the film industry’s potential to contribute to the state’s economic aspirations.
Experts emphasize the significance of the film industry in driving tourism and creating employment. According to Dr. Priya Rao, an associate professor at the University of Hyderabad, "The film industry can play a pivotal role in enhancing Telangana's cultural tourism, attracting both domestic and international visitors. It is essential for the government and the industry to work together to harness this potential."
Industry leaders have expressed optimism about the government's support. Nandamuri Balakrishna, a prominent actor and Hindupur MLA, stated, "The collaboration between the government and Tollywood can set a precedent for other states, showcasing how cultural industries can contribute to economic growth."
As Telangana embarks on this ambitious journey, the partnership between the government and the film industry could emerge as a crucial driver of economic transformation, positioning the region as a leader in both cultural and economic spheres.
This initiative not only seeks to revitalize the film industry but also aims to position Telangana as a key player in the Indian economy, focusing on sustainable development while celebrating its rich cinematic heritage.
