The concept of 'digestive fire', a principle rooted in Ayurveda, suggests that the rainy season dampens this vital energy, leading to poor nutrient absorption and sluggish digestion. According to the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK), common gastrointestinal concerns during the monsoon include loose stools, diarrhea, and decreased appetite. Recognizing these symptoms is the first step toward effective management.

Jain advises against consuming certain foods that pose a heightened risk of contamination, particularly raw leafy greens, seafood, and street food, which may not adhere to proper hygiene standards. The USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service warns that unpasteurized dairy products can become unsafe in humid conditions due to rapid bacterial growth.
