PAHO/WHO Hosts Second Regional Webinar on Universal Health Initiatives

On September 9-10, 2025, the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) will convene the Second Regional Webinar titled "Synergies for Universal Health: Leveraging PAHO's Flagship Initiatives and the Role of PAHO/WHO Collaborating Centres." This virtual event aims to enhance collaboration among PAHO/WHO Collaborating Centres (CCs) throughout the Americas, focusing on critical health priorities and leveraging innovative solutions to improve health outcomes.

The webinar is strategically designed to strengthen the contributions of Collaborating Centres to PAHO/WHO's flagship initiatives, including the Elimination Initiative, Digital Transformation, Better Care for Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs), and Regional Revolving Funds. The event will serve as a platform for sharing knowledge, fostering networks, and addressing the urgent health challenges faced by the region.

According to Dr. Carissa Etienne, Director of PAHO, "This webinar is crucial for enhancing the engagement of our Collaborating Centres, which play a vital role in addressing the health needs of the Americas. By sharing knowledge and resources, we can tackle the most pressing health issues and work towards achieving universal health coverage."

The two-day event will feature various sessions, including plenary discussions and breakout rooms, allowing participants to delve into specific topics such as data analysis, research, digital health solutions, and artificial intelligence applications in healthcare. Participants are encouraged to register for the sessions to actively engage in discussions and contribute their expertise.

Dr. Elena Martinez, a public health expert at Johns Hopkins University, emphasized the importance of collaboration in public health efforts. "The challenges we face, such as the rise of NCDs and the need for digital health solutions, require a multi-faceted approach. This webinar provides an excellent opportunity for knowledge exchange and collaboration among health professionals across the region."

The event will also feature a Call for Posters, inviting participants to submit research findings and innovative practices that contribute to the goals of PAHO's initiatives. This initiative aligns with PAHO's commitment to fostering a culture of evidence-based practice and collaboration.

As the Americas continue to grapple with health disparities and the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic, the significance of such collaborative efforts cannot be overstated. The World Health Organization (WHO) has consistently highlighted the need for enhanced collaboration in health systems to achieve better health outcomes and to respond effectively to health emergencies.

Looking ahead, the outcomes of this webinar are expected to inform future strategies and initiatives aimed at improving health equity and access to care in the Americas. Engaging Collaborating Centres in this dialogue is essential for adapting to the evolving health landscape and ensuring that the region is better prepared for future challenges.

In conclusion, the Second Regional Webinar represents a concerted effort by PAHO to unite health leaders, researchers, and policymakers in pursuit of improved health for all. The collaborative spirit fostered during this event may well serve as a model for future initiatives aimed at achieving universal health coverage across the Americas.
