AIESEC in UPLB Concludes Successful Youth Leadership Summit

The University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB) recently hosted Launch UP, a three-day virtual Youth Leadership Summit that attracted over 100 high school and incoming first-year college students from various regions across the Philippines. The event, which took place from July 8 to 12, 2025, aimed to empower young leaders and foster their skills in leadership, teamwork, and global awareness through a series of interactive workshops and discussions.
Launch UP was organized by AIESEC in UPLB, a student-led organization known for developing leadership potential in youth. According to Maria Santos, President of AIESEC in UPLB, the summit provided participants with essential tools to navigate their academic and professional journeys. "Our goal was to create an engaging platform where students could learn from experts and connect with peers who share their aspirations," Santos stated.
The summit featured various sessions led by industry leaders and guest speakers, including Dr. Richard Velasco, a noted educator from the University of the Philippines, who emphasized the importance of adaptability in today’s fast-paced world. "The ability to adapt and innovate is crucial for the leaders of tomorrow," remarked Dr. Velasco during his keynote address.
Furthermore, the event included workshops on topics such as effective communication, critical thinking, and cultural intelligence, which were designed to prepare participants for future challenges. According to a report published by the Philippine Commission on Higher Education in 2023, such leadership training is increasingly vital as the country faces economic and social challenges that require innovative solutions from its youth.
AIESEC's global mission aligns with these objectives, as the organization has been recognized by the United Nations for its efforts in promoting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through youth engagement. "Youth leadership is not just about taking charge; it’s about contributing positively to society," said John Lopez, Regional Director for AIESEC Southeast Asia.
The conclusion of Launch UP marks a significant step in AIESEC’s commitment to fostering leadership among youth in the Philippines. As the organization plans future initiatives, the feedback from participants will be instrumental in shaping subsequent programs. According to a survey conducted post-summit, 90% of attendees expressed a desire for more leadership development opportunities in their communities.
In light of the successful conclusion of Launch UP, AIESEC in UPLB is poised to continue its role as a catalyst for youth empowerment, with plans for additional events aimed at nurturing the next generation of leaders. As educational institutions and organizations increasingly recognize the need for leadership preparation, initiatives like Launch UP are essential in equipping young individuals with the skills necessary to thrive in an interconnected world.
