K-P Governor Kundi Signals No-Confidence Motion Against Gandapur Post Majority

ISLAMABAD: In a significant political maneuver, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Governor Faisal Karim Kundi announced that the opposition parties are prepared to initiate a no-confidence motion against Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur as soon as they secure a majority in the provincial assembly. Kundi's remarks came following a strategic meeting between a delegation from the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman in Islamabad on July 11, 2025.

The meeting underscored the urgency for opposition collaboration in the upcoming Senate elections, with both parties aiming to optimize their electoral strategies. According to Kundi, "The day one extra member joins us, we can move a vote of no-confidence," highlighting the opposition's confidence in unifying their ranks. Senior PPP leader Khursheed Shah emphasized the importance of honoring previous agreements, stating, "Every party has its mandate, and we have had a longstanding relationship with Maulana Fazlur Rehman."

In light of the impending elections, Kundi outlined the PPP's targets for the Senate race, aiming to secure five seats, with specific allocations for both JUI-F and PPP candidates. He remarked, "Our goal is for Maulana Fazl's group to secure one general seat, while PPP will contest a reserved seat."

Addressing concerns around political integrity, Kundi asserted that the PPP would strive to avoid what he termed 'horse-trading' and expressed hope for a joint effort among the former Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) alliance during the elections. He further criticized the governance of the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), challenging them to identify any significant public infrastructure they have developed in the province.

Kundi's comments also drew attention to the deteriorating security situation in K-P, where he blamed the rising extremist activities on governance failures. He stated, "Extremists usually come out after Asr prayers in the province," underscoring the urgency of addressing law and order issues.

In a broader context, Kundi condemned the recent terrorist attack in Balochistan that resulted in the deaths of nine individuals based on their identities. He called for national unity in combating terrorism, while specifically pointing to alleged Indian involvement in subversive activities within Pakistan. "Eighty percent of the terrorism in Pakistan is originating from Afghan soil," he warned, urging Afghanistan to prevent its territory from being used by hostile entities.
