Luis Díaz Transfers from Liverpool to Bayern Munich for £65.5m

In a significant development in the football transfer market, Colombian winger Luis Díaz has officially moved from Liverpool FC to Bayern Munich for a reported fee of £65.5 million (€75 million). The transfer was completed on July 30, 2025, as Díaz signed a four-year contract with the option for an additional year with the German champions. This move marks one of the most substantial transfers in both clubs’ histories, positioning Díaz as the third most expensive sale for Liverpool, following the departures of Philippe Coutinho and Luis Suárez.

Díaz's transfer comes as Liverpool aims to strengthen its financial position ahead of a potential bid for Swedish striker Alexander Isak from Newcastle United. Following the sale of Díaz, Liverpool has raised over £190 million in player sales since Richard Hughes took over as sporting director in June 2024. This financial boost is particularly critical as Liverpool looks to enhance its squad after a summer spending spree of nearly £300 million.

According to a press release from Liverpool, the club received an improved offer from Bayern Munich that they deemed fair market value for the 28-year-old player, who expressed his desire to leave the Premier League champions after a successful tenure. Díaz played a pivotal role in Liverpool’s triumph in the previous season, contributing 17 goals across all competitions.

Díaz initially joined Liverpool from FC Porto in January 2022 for an upfront fee of €45 million, with an additional €15 million possible through performance-related add-ons. To date, only €4 million of these add-ons have been activated, resulting in a profit of €26 million from the sale to Bayern, as Porto does not hold a sell-on clause.

In an emotional farewell posted on his Instagram account, Díaz reflected on his time at Liverpool, stating, “Three years and a half that I’ll treasure forever. I arrived with all the dreams in the world, and I am leaving proud of everything we achieved together.” He also paid tribute to his late teammate Diogo Jota, who tragically passed away earlier this month, saying, “I will never forget him. We will never forget him.”

Bayern Munich's acquisition of Díaz not only reinforces their attacking options but also places him among the club's top three most expensive transfers, following Harry Kane and Lucas Hernández. The implications of this transfer extend beyond individual careers; they signal a strategic shift within both clubs as they prepare for the upcoming season.

Looking ahead, Liverpool remains keen on acquiring Alexander Isak, with sources indicating that the club is prepared to meet a potential British record transfer fee to secure the striker. Isak, who has expressed interest in joining Liverpool, could be a valuable addition to the squad, particularly in light of potential departures of other players like Darwin Núñez and Harvey Elliott. As the summer transfer window progresses, both clubs will be closely monitored for further developments.
