Pakistan and Bangladesh Reach Visa-Free Agreement for Diplomats

In a significant diplomatic advancement, Pakistan and Bangladesh have agreed to allow visa-free entry for holders of diplomatic and official passports. This agreement was reached during a high-level meeting on July 23, 2025, in Dhaka, between Pakistan’s Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Bangladesh’s Home Minister Lieutenant General (Retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury.

The meeting marked a crucial step in enhancing bilateral relations, with the two ministers engaging in extensive discussions on various issues of mutual concern, particularly focusing on internal security and law enforcement collaboration. Minister Naqvi was received with a formal guard of honour upon his arrival, underscoring the importance of this visit.

According to a statement from the Pakistani Ministry of Interior, both ministers expressed a mutual desire to strengthen cooperation in counter-terrorism efforts, combat drug trafficking, and prevent human smuggling. The decision to permit visa-free travel for diplomats is seen as a method to alleviate bureaucratic restrictions, thereby facilitating greater diplomatic engagement between the two nations.

“Your visit is of great importance for the promotion of Pakistan-Bangladesh relations,” remarked Minister Chowdhury. He also acknowledged Pakistan's support in enhancing police training, which is pivotal for reinforcing law enforcement capabilities in Bangladesh.

As part of the outcomes from this meeting, the two sides agreed to establish a joint committee to oversee the implementation of the agreed initiatives. Pakistan’s Federal Interior Secretary Khurram Agha will lead the Pakistani delegation in this coordination effort. The committee is expected to explore additional avenues for cooperation, further solidifying the partnership between Islamabad and Dhaka.

In a further display of collaboration, a high-level delegation from Bangladesh is anticipated to visit Islamabad soon to observe Pakistan's Safe City Project and tour the National Police Academy. This visit will provide insights into Pakistan’s strategies in urban safety and policing, which are crucial for enhancing security frameworks in both countries.
