Senator Talha Mehmood Launches Free Eye Surgical Camp for NPC Members

ISLAMABAD, July 26, 2025 – Senator Talha Mehmood inaugurated a free two-day eye surgical camp at the National Press Club (NPC) in Islamabad, aimed at providing essential eye care services to journalists and their families on July 26-27. The initiative, organized in collaboration with Al-Shifa Trust Eye Hospital, operates daily from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM, offering a range of services including eye examinations, medications, eyeglasses, and laser surgeries for conditions such as white cataracts.

In his opening remarks, Senator Mehmood praised the NPC leadership for their commitment to enhancing the health care of media professionals, emphasizing the importance of providing access to world-class medical facilities. “This camp is a testament to the leadership’s dedication to the medical care of our journalists,” he stated. He particularly acknowledged the efforts of NPC President Azhar Jatoi, Secretary Nayyar Ali, and Finance Secretary Waqar Abbasi, as well as the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) President Afzal Butt.

Afzal Butt highlighted the significance of arranging such medical facilities, stating, “This initiative marks a great achievement for NPC, ensuring that our members receive the medical attention they often overlook due to their demanding schedules.” He noted that the prevalence of vision-related issues is on the rise, primarily due to the extensive use of digital devices in today’s media landscape.

The camp aims to address these growing health concerns by providing comprehensive eye care services under one roof, free of charge. On its opening day, hundreds of NPC members took advantage of the services, receiving necessary surgical interventions where required.

The rising incidence of vision problems among journalists has prompted the NPC to prioritize health initiatives. Azhar Jatoi remarked on the challenges faced by media professionals, stating, “The pressures of our work often lead journalists to neglect their health, making access to such facilities crucial.”

The eye surgical camp is not only a proactive measure to combat the increasing rates of vision impairment but also a reflection of the NPC's commitment to the welfare of its members, ensuring that they have the support necessary to maintain their health while fulfilling their professional duties. As the world becomes more reliant on digital communication, such initiatives are likely to become increasingly vital in safeguarding the health of those who inform the public.

For further information about the camp and to schedule appointments, NPC members are encouraged to reach out to the administration office during camp hours.
