Teen Arrested for Excessive Speeding Near Thessalon, Ontario

THESSALON, ON – A 17-year-old driver from Sault Ste. Marie was arrested last Thursday for operating a vehicle at an alarming speed of over 160 km/h in a 90 km/h zone on Highway 17. The incident occurred at approximately 11:15 a.m., when officers from the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting routine patrols. They observed a blue vehicle traveling eastbound at an excessively high rate of speed near Braniff Road.

In an attempt to evade law enforcement, the driver sped away on Highway 17. However, police later located the vehicle parked in the driveway of a residence on Jarrett Drive, where a traffic stop was successfully initiated, resulting in the driver's arrest without incident.

The young driver now faces multiple charges, including "Drive motor vehicle – perform stunt (excessive speed)" and "Fail to stop for police." Additionally, the accused has been scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Sault Ste. Marie on August 6. Furthermore, as part of the repercussions of this reckless behavior, the driver received a 30-day suspension of their driver's license, and the vehicle was impounded for a period of 14 days.
