Prof. Ranjan Singh Appointed Founding Editor of APL Engineering Physics

MELVILLE, N.Y., June 24, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- AIP Publishing is proud to announce the appointment of Professor Ranjan Singh as the founding editor-in-chief of APL Engineering Physics, a new journal dedicated to the intersection of applied physics and engineering. Professor Singh, an internationally recognized leader in photonics, spintronics, and metamaterials, currently serves as a professor of electrical engineering at the University of Notre Dame. His extensive research portfolio includes pioneering contributions in optics, topological photonics, terahertz superinductors, and micro-nanophotonics, underscoring his commitment to advancing technology through scientific innovation.
"I am excited to launch APL Engineering Physics as a journal built by and for researchers pushing the limits of what physics can do when applied to the engineering challenges of tomorrow," stated Professor Singh. Having worked across continents and disciplines, he recognizes the power of interdisciplinary science and aims to provide a global platform for groundbreaking research.
Singh holds a Ph.D. in Photonics from Oklahoma State University and has a distinguished academic and professional history, including a postdoctoral fellowship at Los Alamos National Laboratory and a decade at Singapore's Nanyang Technological University, where he founded TeraX Labs, a leader in terahertz research. He is also an elected Fellow of OPTICA and a Highly Cited Researcher according to the Web of Science.
Penelope Lee, Chief Publishing Officer at AIP Publishing, expressed confidence in Singh's leadership, stating, "Prof. Singh's impressive background and boundless vision make him an ideal choice for inaugural editor-in-chief of APL Engineering Physics. Under his leadership, we look forward to watching this journal thrive and ultimately become a go-to publication for a rapidly growing research community."
Announced in November 2024, APL Engineering Physics is the latest addition to the Applied Physics Letters (APL) family of journals, joining several other influential publications. This new journal aims to spotlight research that not only explains physical phenomena but also contributes to the development of new technologies and engineering solutions to complex challenges.
As the field of engineering physics continues to evolve, the journal will focus on innovative research that leverages physics principles to create real-world applications. Professor Singh emphasized, "Engineering physics is where curiosity meets creation. With APL Engineering Physics, we aim to spotlight breakthrough research that doesn't just explain the world but builds its future."
