Alessandro Ghiretti Triumphs at Spa-Francorchamps, Takes Supercup Lead

In an exhilarating display of skill and strategy, Alessandro Ghiretti, a 23-year-old French driver representing Schumacher CLRT, clinched victory in the fifth round of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup at the historic Spa-Francorchamps circuit in Belgium on July 27, 2025. This race, marked by challenging weather conditions, saw Ghiretti secure his second win of the season, propelling him to the top of the championship standings with 75.5 points.

Ghiretti's performance was particularly noteworthy as he navigated a rain-soaked track that gradually dried over the course of the race. Following a safety car deployment due to slippery conditions, Ghiretti demonstrated remarkable control and pace, finishing the race with an impressive lead of 8.6 seconds over his teammate, Flynt Schuring. Robert de Haan of BWT Lechner Racing finished third, surrendering his championship lead to Ghiretti in the process.

"My thanks go to the Schumacher CLRT crew. I felt extremely comfortable in my Porsche 911 GT3 Cup," Ghiretti expressed post-race. "I love these mixed conditions, where it’s not just about outright speed but also strategy. I’m delighted to be leading the championship, but everything is still wide open."

The race saw a dominant performance from the two Schumacher CLRT drivers, with Schuring also claiming the title of fastest rookie. The young Dutch driver remarked, "That was a tough race today. Some parts of the track were almost dry, others still very wet. You had to attack, but at the same time conserve the tyres."

Despite a challenging race, Robert de Haan managed to secure valuable points, finishing third. He reflected on his performance, stating, "At the start, I could match the pace of the two front guys, but from about mid-race I lost contact. P3 is good, and I’ve scored valuable points. The championship is still wide open."

On the other hand, Theo Oeverhaus, another Porsche Junior, struggled throughout the race, finishing outside the top ten. Oeverhaus noted, "The race didn’t go the way I’d hoped. I’d expected more, because I’m usually very quick in the rain."

Oliver Schwab, Project Manager of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup, praised the drivers for their performance under difficult conditions, stating, "In difficult conditions, they delivered a hugely entertaining race. The championship couldn’t be more exciting. Our Porsche Junior Alessandro Ghiretti drove in a league of his own today and now rightfully leads the standings."

The next race, Round 6 of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup, is scheduled for August 3, 2025, as part of the Hungarian Grand Prix weekend at the Hungaroring near Budapest. With the championship still wide open, the upcoming races promise to deliver further thrilling action as drivers vie for the coveted title.
