Aston Martin Vantage GT3 Secures Maiden Podium at Interlagos WEC

On July 14, 2025, the Racing Spirit of Léman (RSL) team achieved a significant milestone by securing its first podium finish in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) during the 6 Hours of São Paulo race at the Interlagos circuit in Brazil. This achievement not only marked a historic moment for RSL but also highlighted the competitive capabilities of the Aston Martin Vantage GT3, which finished in third place after a thrilling race.
The race featured a strong performance from Brazilian driver Eduardo Barrichello, who is the son of legendary Formula 1 driver Rubens Barrichello. Barrichello, alongside WEC debutant Anthony McIntosh from the United States and French works driver Valentin Hasse Clot, contributed significantly to the team's success. Barrichello’s strategic driving in the last ten minutes of the race was particularly notable as he fought back from fifth place to clinch third.
"It was crazy," Barrichello remarked after the race. "I had to put all my faith in the engineers who were telling me how hard to push the tyres at the end of the race because I couldn't drive them too hard or I would have gone to zero very quickly. But we were able to manage it and thankfully everything worked out and we had enough in the car to take third position at the end."
The podium finish was described as "an amazing feeling" for Barrichello, who expressed gratitude for the support of local fans and the significance of racing for Aston Martin at his home track. This event was particularly important as it marked the first podium for all three drivers in only RSL's fifth WEC start, emphasizing the potential of the Vantage GT3 in endurance racing.
The Aston Martin Vantage GT3, which is built on a bonded aluminum chassis and powered by a twin-turbo 4.0-litre V8 engine, has already demonstrated its versatility and competitiveness throughout the season. Adam Carter, Head of Endurance Motorsport at Aston Martin, praised the team's performance, saying, "We congratulate Racing Spirit of Léman on an outstanding performance throughout the weekend. The team maximized the potential of Vantage in qualifying at Interlagos and then delivered with an exceptional podium in the race."
The Vantage GT3's achievement at Interlagos adds to its impressive track record, which includes multiple class victories in various championships, including the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship and the CrowdStrike 24 Hours of Spa.
Looking ahead, the WEC is set to take a summer break before resuming at the Circuit of the Americas for the 6-hour Lone Star Le Mans event from September 5-7, 2025. Meanwhile, the IMSA series continues its season at Road America from August 1-3, 2025. With this podium finish, RSL and the Aston Martin Vantage GT3 have positioned themselves as strong contenders for future races, reflecting the ongoing evolution and competitive spirit within endurance motorsport.
