Bengaluru Stampede: Interim Release Granted to RCB Marketing Head

In a significant legal development, Nikhil Sosale, the Head of Marketing and Revenue for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), has been granted interim release following his arrest in connection with a deadly stampede that occurred during the IPL victory celebrations on June 4, 2025. The stampede, which took place outside the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, resulted in the tragic deaths of 11 individuals and left 56 others injured.

The arrests of Sosale, along with Kiran Kumar, Senior Event Manager at DNA Entertainment Network, and Sunil Mathew, Vice President of Business Affairs at the same firm, came shortly after the chaotic event that saw an overwhelming number of fans gather outside the stadium. According to the police's First Information Report (FIR), the disorganization surrounding entry procedures led to a dangerous situation as lakhs of fans attempted to gain access to an event designed for a maximum of 35,000 attendees.

Sosale was apprehended by the Central Crime Branch upon his arrival at the airport early on June 6. His legal counsel raised questions about the legality of the arrest in the Karnataka High Court. Following a series of hearings, the court announced its decision to grant Sosale interim release while mandating that he surrender his passport, thereby restricting his travel until further legal proceedings.
