Julien Clémence Returns to Bern for IFSC Boulder World Cup 2025

The IFSC Boulder World Cup returns to Bern, Switzerland, this weekend, marking a significant event in the climbing calendar. This occasion is particularly special for local athlete Julien Clémence, who expressed deep emotional ties to the city, stating, "Having a home World Cup feels amazing. Having family, friends, and teammates cheering for you on the biggest stage is an additional boost to perform well. I still get goosebumps thinking about World Champs in Bern in 2023. The atmosphere is just different."

The World Cup in Bern is the fifth of six competitions for the Boulder discipline in 2025. The event follows the successful hosting of the IFSC Climbing and Paraclimbing World Championships in the same city last year, which drew international competitors and significant crowds. Clémence, who has had a stellar season so far, noted, "My season is going great, probably the best one so far. I’ve been consistent and feel comfortable on the stage."

In the men's competition, Clémence will compete against formidable opponents, including Japan's Anraku Sorato, who has won three gold medals and one silver in the current season. Other competitors in the mix include France's Mejdi Schalck, Great Britain's Toby Roberts, and Slovenia's Anze Peharc, all of whom have demonstrated strong performances throughout the season.

On the women's side, the event will feature the three medalists from the recent World Cup in Prague, including French climbers Oriane Bertone and Agathe Calliet, as well as Japan's Sekikawa Melody. Notably, Great Britain's Emma Edwards and Spain's Gelia Macià Martín will be making their World Cup final debuts after an unexpected cancellation of the final round last week due to inclement weather.

Clémence offered advice to newcomers and spectators visiting Bern for the first time, suggesting they take advantage of the summer weather by enjoying a dip in the nearby Aare River. He added, "If you have more time, you can go to the mountains to see some beautiful landscape. Otherwise, strolling around town is lovely. The old town is beautiful and peaceful."

The IFSC World Cup in Bern kicks off on June 13, 2025, with the women's Boulder qualification starting at 09:00 local time (UTC+2:00), followed by the men's competition at 15:30. Fans can follow updates and live coverage through the IFSC's official website and their digital channels on various social media platforms.

As the competition unfolds, many will be eager to witness not only the athletic prowess on display but also the vibrant atmosphere that Bern has to offer. As Clémence reflects on his journey, he remains focused on his routine, emphasizing that every competition is an opportunity to showcase the strength of the Swiss climbing community.

This weekend's event is not only significant for the athletes but also serves as a celebration of climbing culture and community engagement, reinforcing Bern's position as a central hub for international climbing events.
