Miko Marczyk Takes Lead in FIA European Rally Championship in Poland

Miko Marczyk, driving for the Topp-Cars Rally Team, has emerged as the frontrunner in the FIA European Rally Championship after clinching a narrow lead of 0.1 seconds on the opening night of the ORLEN OIL 81st Rally Poland. The event, which commenced on June 13, 2025, features a series of challenging stages, with Marczyk setting the fastest time during the Mikołajki Arena super special stage.
Marczyk, co-driven by Szymon Gospodarczyk in a Škoda Fabia RS Rally2 equipped with Michelin tyres, outpaced Citroën C3 Rally2 driver Mads Østberg, who finished the stage in fifth position. "We are here not only for the championship but for the supporters and now we had fun for the first time as qualifying was not okay for us. We will like to keep it like that for tomorrow morning," Marczyk stated after his performance.
In a competitive display, Andrea Mabellini, also driving a Škoda but on Pirelli tyres, secured second place, just a tenth of a second behind Marczyk. Mārtiņš Sesks completed the top three in his MRF-shod Fabia. The current ERC points leader, Roope Korhonen, driving a Toyota GR Yaris Rally2, is poised in fourth place as the rally progresses.
The Rally Poland has traditionally been a significant event in the European rally calendar, known for its challenging terrain and enthusiastic fan base. The 2025 edition is no different, showcasing a blend of seasoned competitors and emerging talents, as evidenced by the performance of 18-year-old Adrian Rzeźnik, who topped the FIA ERC3 order with a time that placed him above seasoned rivals.
The event has not been without its tributes, as drivers and co-drivers gathered to honor Matteo Doretto, who tragically lost his life in a testing accident prior to the rally. "It was a typical super special for the fans. We know this weekend is going to be difficult for us, especially mentally and emotionally," remarked Jaspar Vaher, the fastest FIA Junior ERC driver.
As the ORLEN OIL 81st Rally Poland continues on June 14, spectators can expect a thrilling display of skill and competition, with Marczyk and his peers aiming for top positions in the subsequent stages, including the 16.30-kilometre Świętajno stage, which features sections not previously utilized in Rally Poland history.
The rally will reach its conclusion on June 15, promising an exhilarating finish to this prestigious event within the FIA European Rally Championship, as participants vie for the coveted title amid a backdrop of Polish landscapes and fervent local support.
