Porsche Leads Jakarta Formula E with Record Fastest Laps and Races

In the competitive landscape of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, the TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team has established a formidable presence ahead of the upcoming Jakarta E-Prix scheduled for June 21, 2025. Known for its challenging conditions, Jakarta’s street circuit presents a unique set of obstacles for both drivers and teams, making Porsche’s recent achievements particularly noteworthy.

The Jakarta International E-Prix Circuit, spanning 2.370 kilometers, features 18 turns, characterized by two lengthy straights and a dynamic middle section that poses fast directional changes. The final sector is especially demanding, with a narrow hairpin turn that tests the braking skills of drivers. Recent weather patterns in Jakarta, marked by temperatures exceeding 30 degrees Celsius and humidity levels above 70 percent, further complicate the racing environment.

According to Florian Modlinger, Director of Factory Motorsport for Formula E at Porsche, “Jakarta has a very interesting racetrack with a variety of challenges. It can get extremely hot there, but it can also rain. This means that we need to be ready for anything. We have practiced a whole host of scenarios in the simulator and feel prepared for a challenging race.”

The Porsche team has shown remarkable performance this season, leading the teams’ standings with an impressive total of six fastest race laps, more than any other competitor in the series. This achievement has significantly contributed to their current position at the top of the championship standings, with drivers Pascal Wehrlein and António Félix da Costa accumulating additional points through their efficiency with the Porsche 99X Electric.

Historically, Porsche has excelled in Jakarta, securing victories in previous races. In their last appearance two years ago, Pascal Wehrlein clinched victory, followed closely by teammate Jake Dennis. The team’s strategic prowess and the capabilities of their electric vehicle technology have been pivotal in their success in this challenging venue.

As the season approaches its final stages, Wehrlein expressed enthusiasm about the upcoming race, stating, “I’m really looking forward to Jakarta. It’s a very cool track in extreme conditions. It’s always incredibly hot there, which is difficult for both drivers and cars. The Shanghai weekend taught us how to handle the tyres better when they are put under heavy strain.”

António Félix da Costa echoed these sentiments, recalling his positive experiences in Jakarta and emphasizing the team’s focus on gathering valuable points to maintain their lead in the standings. “We’re entering the final third of the season now, have regained the lead in the team standings, and will be focusing on picking up further valuable points here,” he noted.

The Jakarta E-Prix is crucial for the Porsche Formula E team, not only for its championship standing but also for the insights gained that can be applied to Porsche's production sports cars. As Formula E enters its sixth season with Porsche, the integration of racing technology into consumer vehicles continues to be a strategic priority for the brand.

The race is set to begin at 15:05 local time (10:05 CEST), with qualifying scheduled for 10:20 local time (5:20 CEST). Fans can follow the event on various platforms, with a comprehensive broadcasting schedule available on the official Formula E website.

In summary, the upcoming Jakarta E-Prix represents a significant opportunity for the TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team to solidify their lead in the championship standings, demonstrating their capacity to navigate the complexities of one of the most demanding circuits in the Formula E calendar. With their strong track record and strategic preparations, Porsche aims to continue its impressive performance in the face of challenging conditions.
