Alfalite Unveils SKYPIX LED Panel for Advanced Virtual Production

Alfalite, a prominent European manufacturer of LED displays, has officially launched the SKYPIX RGBW & IM series, a groundbreaking line of ceiling-mounted LED panels tailored specifically for virtual production (VP XR) environments. This innovative product was unveiled on June 17, 2025, and is designed to enhance the production capabilities of film, television, advertising, and broadcast industries.

The SKYPIX panels introduce a dual functionality by combining RGB video playback with an integrated white lighting channel, thereby providing a more natural and adaptable lighting environment for virtual productions. With a pixel pitch of 3.9 mm, the panels boast an impressive brightness of up to 9,000 nits and a refresh rate of 7,680 Hz, which allows for precise light control and a broad color temperature range from 3,200 to 6,504ºK. Furthermore, the SKYPIX panels feature a TM-30 color rendering index (Ra) of 90, reflecting their ability to reproduce colors accurately.

Luis Garrido, Executive Director of Alfalite, stated, "With SKYPIX, we’re taking the integration of image and light within virtual production volumes one step further. We listened to studios and lighting technicians to create a panel that not only displays content but also lights the scene with unprecedented realism and communicates with the broader production system. It eliminates the maintenance and synchronization issues associated with traditional tracking markers."

One of the standout innovations of the SKYPIX series is its Invisible Marker (IM) system, which replaces traditional physical tracking markers with a virtual, invisible sticker compatible with existing tracking technologies. This system ensures accurate real-time synchronization and allows for customizable IM constellations that embed metadata directly into the shoot. Users can manage lighting control through a dedicated application, enabling real-time adjustments of both color and intensity — by zone or by pixel — with user-defined presets tailored to production needs.

Alfalite emphasizes that the SKYPIX series is not only energy-efficient, with an average power consumption of just 35W (90W max), making it suitable for long studio sessions, but also marks a significant advancement in the integration of lighting and visual content in virtual production. As the demand for sophisticated virtual production technologies continues to grow, the SKYPIX panels are positioned to meet the needs of studios aiming for high-quality, immersive storytelling without compromising technical precision.

The introduction of the SKYPIX series underscores Alfalite's commitment to developing specialized solutions for the rapidly evolving virtual production sector. The panels are expected to serve a diverse range of applications, reinforcing the importance of technological innovation in the film and broadcasting industries. As virtual production environments become increasingly complex, the SKYPIX panels represent a pivotal advancement in the quest for seamless integration of visual and lighting technologies.
