The relaunch comes on the heels of Automattic's acquisition of Beeper for $125 million in 2024, which facilitated the integration of Beeper with Texts.com, another messaging service acquired by Automattic for $50 million the previous year. The combined efforts of both platforms have yielded a single messaging solution that supports a wide range of services, including WhatsApp, Instagram, Telegram, and Signal, among others. The unified team now comprises 30 members, focusing on delivering a seamless user experience.

In addition to the core functionality, Beeper is rolling out premium subscription tiers. The new Beeper Plus plan, priced at $9.99 per month, allows users to connect with ten messaging services, compared to five for free-tier users. Enhanced features include scheduling messages, reminders, and incognito mode for reading messages without notifying the sender. For businesses or social media managers, Beeper Plus Plus is available at $49.99 per month, providing access to unlimited accounts and advanced functionalities.

The decision to switch to an on-device model comes at a time when there is increasing scrutiny on data privacy and security. According to Bagaria, the company is exploring ways to allow users to interact with their messaging data through artificial intelligence frameworks like Claude or ChatGPT. This would enable functionalities such as summarizing important messages, thereby enriching the user experience.

As of now, Beeper boasts millions of registered users, including those migrating from Texts.com. While some reliability issues may still persist as users transition to the on-device model, Bagaria remains optimistic about the future, emphasizing the need for a transparent and user-centric privacy approach. “We also don’t want to have server farms where we have models trained on your data. That’s a complete no-no,” he remarked, highlighting Beeper's commitment to maintaining user trust and data integrity.
