Ben Wood, an analyst at CCS Insight, notes that both Meta and OpenAI are currently placing significant investments in AI-integrated hardware, aiming to avoid the pitfalls encountered by their predecessors.

Howard predicts that the competition to establish the leading AI personal device will intensify, as the market for wearable technology is limited and user preferences can often lead to overwhelming choices.
OpenAI's substantial financial backing and expertise position it favorably for this endeavor. Following the hiring of Fidji Simo, former chief of applications at Instacart, the team is focusing on addressing the hardware-related challenges associated with AI. Voice interaction is anticipated to become a primary modality for commanding AI systems, echoing the vision of Google’s Sundar Pichai, who has long advocated for an era of ambient computing where technology is seamlessly integrated into users' environments.
While the potential for a unique AI interface is promising, analysts caution that the ubiquity of smartphones means they will continue to play a crucial role in users’ lives for the foreseeable future.
