BYD Achieves 13 Million NEV Milestone with Launch of Yangwang U7

On July 21, 2025, BYD, the Chinese automobile manufacturer, proudly announced a significant milestone in the electric vehicle (EV) industry: the production of its 13 millionth new energy vehicle (NEV), marked by the Yangwang U7 sedan. This achievement comes merely eight months after the company celebrated its 10 millionth NEV with the Denza Z9 GT in November 2024. The Yangwang U7, part of BYD's premium sub-brand, exemplifies cutting-edge technology and performance in the rapidly evolving EV market.

The Yangwang U7 is noteworthy for its high performance and innovative design, available in both battery-electric and plug-in hybrid variants. It measures 5,265 mm in length, 1,998 mm in width, and 1,517 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,160 mm. The electric version is powered by four electric motors, delivering a remarkable combined output of 960 kW (1,287 hp), enabling acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.9 seconds and achieving a top speed of 270 km/h. A robust 135.5 kWh battery provides a CLTC-rated range of up to 720 km.

In contrast, the plug-in hybrid variant is slightly larger, at 5,360 mm, and features the same electric motor configuration alongside a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine rated at 200 kW (268 hp). It boasts a 52.4 kWh battery and a 60-litre fuel tank, offering an all-electric range of 200 km and a total mixed range exceeding 1,000 km.

A key feature of the Yangwang U7 is its fully digital chassis control system, which incorporates BYD’s Disus-Z active suspension and YiSiFang four-motor independent drive system. This advanced suspension technology utilizes electromagnetic actuators rather than traditional hydraulic dampers, allowing the rear wheels to turn up to 20 degrees and reducing the turning radius to an impressive 4.85 meters. The vehicle's aerodynamic design, featuring a drag coefficient as low as 0.195 Cd, is enhanced by a coupe-style roofline and an active rear spoiler, contributing to its efficiency and performance.

Inside, the U7 boasts a symmetrical design centered around a 12.8-inch OLED touchscreen and a 23.6-inch 4K naked-eye 3D instrument panel, with an additional screen for the front passenger. The voice assistant technology supports lip-reading and dialect recognition, with a remarkably low response delay of under 300 milliseconds. The U7 is available in both four-seat and five-seat configurations, with the flagship model featuring rear-seat entertainment screens, dual refrigerators, and luxurious Nappa leather seats equipped with ventilation, heating, and massage functions.

In terms of pricing, the five-seat luxury version of the Yangwang U7 is priced at approximately 628,000 yuan (around 87,500 USD), while the four-seat flagship variant retails for about 708,000 yuan (approximately 98,500 USD).

The surge in production numbers aligns with the broader trends in the global electric vehicle market, where consumer interest in sustainable transportation solutions continues to rise. According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), global electric car sales reached a record high of 10 million units in 2022, underscoring the growing acceptance of electric vehicles worldwide (IEA, Global EV Outlook 2023).

BYD’s commitment to innovation and sustainability positions it favorably within the competitive landscape of electric vehicles, particularly as traditional automakers ramp up their own EV initiatives. The Yangwang U7 serves as a testament to BYD's engineering prowess and vision for the future of transportation, paving the way for further advancements in electric mobility.

As the EV market evolves, analysts anticipate that manufacturers like BYD will continue to play a pivotal role in shaping the industry, particularly in Asia, where demand for electric vehicles is expected to grow exponentially. With ongoing investments in battery technology and sustainable practices, BYD is not only contributing to the reduction of carbon emissions but also setting new benchmarks for performance and luxury in the electric vehicle segment.
