Community Unites for Paul McNamara Memorial Walk, Raising €11,000

On July 7, 2025, over 100 participants gathered in New Quay, County Clare, to honor the memory of Paul McNamara during a memorial walk organized by his widow, Mina McNamara. This event not only commemorated Paul, who tragically lost his life to a brain aneurysm in 2022, but also raised essential funds for two local charities, Quest Brain Injury Services and Claddagh Watch Patrol.

The memorial walk, spanning eight kilometers, concluded with participants completing the course in approximately two hours. Participants raised close to €1,000 on the day, contributing to a total of €11,000 collected throughout the year. Since the inception of the memorial walk in 2023, the fundraising efforts have amassed an impressive €45,000, which has been allocated equally to both charities.

"I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to everyone who participated in the walk and the many volunteers who supported us over the past year," stated Mina McNamara, reflecting on the success of the fundraising initiative. "The weather cooperated, and it was a beautiful day to celebrate Paul’s life and contribute to these worthy causes."

Quest Brain Injury Services, located in Liosbán Business Park, Tuam Road, Galway, provides vital rehabilitation services to individuals who have suffered acquired brain injuries. This service is fully wheelchair accessible, ensuring inclusivity for all clients. Meanwhile, Claddagh Watch Patrol comprises a dedicated team of volunteers who monitor the waterways in Galway City, offering assistance to those in distress.

The event serves as a poignant reminder of the impact of sudden health crises and the importance of community support in times of need. Paul McNamara, originally from Galway's Claddagh area, was known for his love of the outdoors and had been in good health before the tragic event that altered the course of his family's life.

The fundraising campaign continues, with an online donation link available at idonate.ie/event/paulmcnamaramemorialwalk2025, allowing individuals unable to attend the event to contribute to these critical services. As the community reflects on Paul’s legacy, the ongoing support for brain injury rehabilitation and local safety initiatives remains a priority.

The success of the Paul McNamara Memorial Walk not only highlights the power of community solidarity but also raises awareness for the services that assist individuals and families affected by life-altering conditions. Looking ahead, organizers hope to engage even more participants in future events, reinforcing a commitment to supporting local charities and fostering community spirit.
