Disguise Unveils Disguise X1: A Portable Alternative to Media Servers

Disguise, a leading innovator in visual production technology, has officially launched the Disguise X1, a groundbreaking software-only solution designed for real-time visual production at small to medium events. The new software was announced on July 23, 2025, and provides users access to the same powerful Designer software that has been utilized in high-profile events such as concerts by Beyoncé and major festivals like Coachella and Glastonbury.
The Disguise X1 is aimed at professionals who manage live events, including concerts, theatre productions, and corporate brand experiences. It allows users to operate the Designer software on non-Disguise hardware, enabling a wider range of professionals to utilize advanced visual production capabilities without the need for high-performance media servers traditionally required for large-scale shows. Raed Al Tikriti, the Chief Product and Technology Officer at Disguise, stated, "In order to support the world’s biggest shows and installations, we have high-performance media servers powerful enough to seamlessly run visuals on LED walls over 4,000 sq metres in size. But not everyone needs all that power — or has the space or budget for it. That’s why we decided to create X1."
The X1 was developed following an exclusive pilot program during which it was used successfully in various live events, including Bullet For My Valentine at Rockfest in Germany and Festival Napa Valley. This portable solution allows users to plug in a USB license key to access the latest version of Designer immediately, regardless of location.
Furthermore, the software is compatible with a variety of real-time graphics tools such as Notch, Unreal Engine, TouchDesigner, and Unity, facilitated by Disguise’s RenderStream protocol. This compatibility not only enhances the user experience but also allows for the integration of visuals from multiple sources. Users will also benefit from a comprehensive content pack, which includes high-impact visuals designed by Disguise’s Creative Services team.
The functionality of X1 extends beyond just visual production; it incorporates a 3D mini-replica of the user’s stage or environment for content previewing and allows for the scheduling and editing of visuals through the Designer timeline feature. Additionally, it includes built-in redundancy features that ensure reliability during live performances.
The Disguise X1 is currently available for an annual fee of $6,000, with discounted pricing options available for bundles and educational licenses. This launch signifies a significant advance in the capabilities available to smaller event producers, democratizing access to high-quality visual production tools that were previously reserved for large-scale productions.
As the events and entertainment industry continues to evolve, this innovative solution positions Disguise as a key player in the market, catering to a growing demand for accessible yet sophisticated visual production technologies. The implications for small to medium event producers are profound, as the X1 opens new avenues for creativity and efficiency in event production.
