Godox Unveils AM1600R Inflatable Mat Light for Cinematic Productions

In a significant advancement for film lighting technology, Godox has introduced the KNOWLED AM1600R, a revolutionary inflatable LED mat light designed for large-scale productions. This innovative lighting solution, available in two sizes—4x8 ft and 8x8 ft—offers filmmakers unparalleled portability and quick setup capabilities, making it ideal for various shooting environments.

The AM1600R is built on a high-output RGBW LED panel mounted on a durable, inflatable butterfly frame, allowing for a wide and soft field of light. It operates on an extensive voltage range of 100–240V AC and includes an external controller box that supports firmware updates via USB-A. Both the light and controller are IP54-rated, providing dust and splash resistance, and are constructed from abrasion-resistant materials. Notably, the inflatable frame can remain pressurized for up to 15 days, requiring no heavy rigging, which is a considerable advantage for outdoor and location shoots.

According to Godox's official release, the AM1600R is targeted toward cinematographers who seek efficiency and flexibility in their lighting setups. Its diverse lighting modes support a color temperature range from 1800K to 10,000K, alongside green/magenta tint adjustments and multiple color and effect modes including RGBW, HSI, GEL, and preprogrammed effects. Dimming options are adjustable across four curves: linear, S-curve, exponential, and logarithmic. Control can be achieved through an onboard interface, DMX512/RDM, LumenRadio CRMX, and Ethernet-based Art-Net/sACN. Additionally, wireless operation via Bluetooth or NFC using the Godox Light or KNOWLED apps is possible, with a range of up to 196 feet (60 meters).

The AM1600R's detachable accessories enable filmmakers to customize their lighting further. It includes diffusion cloths of varying softness, a pancake lantern, skirt, and grid, with secure mounting options available through touch fasteners and D-rings.

The introduction of the AM1600R comes amidst a flurry of new product announcements from Godox, positioning the company as a leader in innovative lighting solutions. The recent releases include the KNOWLED M300R RGBWW LED and the KNOWLED MG2400R LED light, demonstrating Godox's commitment to meeting the evolving needs of filmmakers.

In terms of logistics, the 4x8 ft version of the AM1600R weighs approximately 12 kg (26.5 lb), while the 8x8 ft model is slightly heavier at around 31.5 kg (69.4 lb). Each configuration is shipped in a robust flight case, which includes the controller, air pump, and necessary accessories. The pricing for the AM1600R is set at $7,990 for the 4x8 ft model and $8,990 for the 8x8 ft version, with pre-orders now available.
