Google Unveils New Features in Android 16 QPR1 Beta 3 for Pixel Users

Google has officially launched the third and final beta version for Android 16’s first quarterly platform release (QPR1). This update, known as Android 16 QPR1 Beta 3, introduces several new features, although a comprehensive changelog was not provided at launch. Currently, the Generic System Images (GSIs) for this beta version are available, but the rollout for Pixel devices has yet to commence.
The new beta introduces an accessibility enhancement that allows users to zoom into the keyboard while utilizing the screen magnification feature. According to Google’s accessibility documentation, this new option can be accessed under Settings > Accessibility > Magnification, enabling users to clearly see emojis and letters when using full-screen magnification.
Despite this enhancement, several anticipated features from the earlier Android Canary release are absent in Beta 3. Notably, the new screen saver functionalities designed for devices with Qi2 charging capabilities, as well as the enhanced HDR brightness control feature, are missing. Furthermore, the dedicated ‘Parental controls’ menu and the new 90:10 split-screen ratio feature are also not present in this beta version.
The stable release of Android 16 QPR1 is anticipated to be available on September 3, 2025. However, users who are currently enrolled in the Android 16 QPR1 beta program may wish to unenroll to ensure they receive the stable release instead of being transitioned to the subsequent beta track, QPR2.
This update highlights Google’s ongoing commitment to enhancing user experience, particularly in areas of accessibility and interface usability. The next steps for Android 16 will include further refinements based on user feedback from the beta program, which will likely set the stage for the subsequent QPR2 beta program, expected to commence shortly after the stable release of QPR1.
As the Android development team continues to refine features and solicit user feedback, updates regarding additional functionalities and improvements will be made available. Users are encouraged to stay tuned for further announcements as the rollout progresses.
