Lenovo and Formula 1 Collaborate on AI Innovations at Chinese GP

Lenovo and Formula 1® have successfully trialed the AI-powered ThinkPad X9 Aura Edition laptop at the Event Technical Centre (ETC) during the 2025 FORMULA 1 HEINEKEN CHINESE GRAND PRIX, marking a significant advancement in motorsport technology. This collaboration, part of a multi-year partnership, aims to enhance race data processing and operational efficiency in one of the world's most data-intensive sports.

The event, held on July 2, 2025, showcased Lenovo's commitment to integrating intelligent computing into Formula 1 operations, which are marked by high-speed data demands and the necessity for real-time decision-making. According to Roberto Dalla, Chief Technical and Engineering Officer of Formula 1, “The Lenovo ThinkPad X9 Aura Edition marks a significant advancement in smart technology, seamlessly integrating advanced features like Smart Modes, Smart Share, and Smart Care to enhance both user experience and productivity.” This device is powered by the Intel Lunar Lake Platform and features Copilot+, designed for high performance and energy efficiency, aligning with Formula 1's ambitious goal of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2030.

The Event Technical Centre serves as a mobile technology hub at each race, collecting and relaying real-time data crucial for timing and telemetry back to the Media & Technology Centre in the UK. The integration of Lenovo's hardware, including laptops, tablets, servers, monitors, and Motorola smartphones, has been instrumental in F1 operations, enhancing on-site data processing and communications.

Dr. Tolga Kurtoglu, Chief Technology Officer at Lenovo, expressed enthusiasm for the trial, stating, “It was exciting to see our innovative AI PC tested in one of the most high-pressure environments—during a F1 Sprint weekend.” This partnership not only aims to improve race operations but also to enhance the fan experience through quicker data processing and collaborative tools.

The successful trial of the Lenovo ThinkPad X9 Aura Edition paves the way for deeper integration of AI technologies into Formula 1's operations throughout the 2025 season. This integration is expected to contribute significantly to both performance on the track and the overall fan experience, showcasing the potential of AI-enabled hardware in enhancing real-time engagement and strategic decision-making in motorsports.

As Formula 1 continues to evolve, the collaboration with Lenovo represents a critical step towards a more technologically advanced and sustainable future in racing, with potential implications for environmental goals and operational efficiency in the high-stakes world of motorsports.
