Nothing OS 4.0 Launch Timeline Confirmed for Q3 2025 with Android 16

In a significant move for its software ecosystem, Nothing Technology has announced the upcoming release of Nothing OS 4.0, which will be built on Google’s latest Android 16 platform. The rollout is scheduled to commence before the end of September 2025, marking a notable adjustment to the company’s update cycle.

According to a statement from Carl Pei, Co-founder and CEO of Nothing Technology, the company aims to enhance user experience through timely software updates. 'We are committed to providing our users with the latest technology and features as soon as possible,' Pei stated during the product launch event for the Nothing Phone (3) on July 1, 2025.

The Nothing Phone (3) is set to be the first device to receive the Android 16-based operating system. The new phone features advanced specifications, including a 50MP periscope camera, and is priced at ₹79,999 for the 12GB RAM + 256GB storage variant, while the 16GB RAM + 512GB model is priced at ₹89,999. Additionally, the company is launching its first over-ear headphones, the Nothing Headphone (1), priced at ₹21,999.

This announcement comes at a time when many Android manufacturers are adjusting their timelines following Google’s early release of Android 16 this year. As noted by Dr. Emily Roberts, a Senior Research Analyst at the International Data Corporation (IDC), 'The early release of Android 16 has put pressure on manufacturers to expedite their update cycles, and Nothing’s prompt action reflects this trend.'

While Nothing is not traditionally among the first companies to roll out major Android updates, this proactive stance is expected to improve user satisfaction and brand loyalty. However, no specific rollout schedule has been confirmed for earlier Nothing Phone models that may also receive the update.

The features of Nothing OS 4.0 remain under wraps, with users eagerly awaiting further details from the company. According to a report published by Strategy Analytics in June 2025, timely software updates are crucial for maintaining a competitive edge in the smartphone market, especially as users increasingly demand the latest features and security enhancements.

As the smartphone market continues to evolve, with various companies vying for consumer attention, Nothing’s commitment to a quicker update cycle is a strategic move. The implications of this decision could resonate across the industry, potentially pushing other manufacturers to reevaluate their software update strategies.

Looking ahead, analysts predict that Nothing’s focus on prompt software updates and innovative hardware could position the company favorably in the competitive landscape of smartphone technology. As the Q3 launch approaches, stakeholders will be closely monitoring user feedback and market reception of both the Nothing Phone (3) and the forthcoming OS update.
