Qodo Partners with Google Cloud to Offer Free AI Code Review Tools

In a significant advancement for software development, Qodo, an Israeli startup specializing in AI-driven code quality solutions, has announced a strategic collaboration with Google Cloud. This partnership aims to provide developers with free AI-powered code review tools integrated directly within the platform, enhancing the integrity of AI-generated software. The announcement was made on June 17, 2025, emphasizing the growing necessity for effective oversight tools as organizations increasingly depend on artificial intelligence to generate substantial portions of their codebases.

According to Itamar Friedman, CEO of Qodo, the reliance on AI-generated code is evolving from a supplementary role to a foundational aspect of modern software development. "Imagine a future where AI writes all the code; humans won’t be able to review it," Friedman stated. He highlighted the urgent need for systems that can uphold the values and intentions behind the code, ensuring that quality remains a priority.

Qodo, formerly known as Codium, rebranded in late 2024 to align with its expanded focus on holistic code quality and AI-driven engineering support. The company made headlines earlier in 2025 with the release of Qodo-Embed-1-1.5B, a lightweight yet high-performing open-source code embedding model that has achieved top scores on industry-standard benchmarks, outperforming larger models from competitors such as OpenAI and Salesforce. This model is tailored to assist development teams in accurately searching, retrieving, and contextualizing code across extensive multi-language codebases, making it especially relevant for large-scale enterprise settings.

Another innovation, Qodo Cover, launched in December 2024, showcases Qodo's commitment to quality assurance. This fully autonomous tool validates software changes against predefined quality and coverage criteria. It demonstrated its effectiveness by contributing validated code to Hugging Face’s open-source PyTorch Image Models repository, showcasing Qodo’s capabilities in regression testing through AI agents.

The centerpiece of the collaboration with Google Cloud is Qodo Merge, an AI-driven code review tool that utilizes Google’s Gemini models. This tool is designed to analyze code for potential bugs, structural issues, and deviations from established best practices. Notably, Qodo Merge will be offered at no cost to open-source software maintainers, which Friedman sees as a vital step in enhancing the quality standards of community-driven projects. "By helping open source projects maintain the highest quality standards, we’re strengthening the building blocks of the entire development ecosystem," he remarked.

Qodo’s suite of tools is seamlessly integrated with Google Cloud, allowing users direct access through services such as Vertex AI and the Google Cloud Marketplace. The integration of Qodo’s embedding model into Google’s Model Garden simplifies the deployment process for clients, enabling rapid and accurate code search and context retrieval.

Moreover, Qodo Gen, the company’s AI code assistant, has been enhanced through the incorporation of Google’s Gemini 2.5 Pro model. This enhancement enables Qodo Gen to provide more context-aware and precise code suggestions, significantly improving the AI-assisted development experience for developers.

In addition to catering to large enterprises, Qodo is also participating in Google Cloud’s Startup Perks program, which provides eligible early-stage companies a 50% discount on Qodo’s tools when used for non-open source, commercial products. Friedman expressed that this initiative is designed to make enterprise-grade code quality solutions accessible to rapidly growing startups, thereby supporting responsible scaling.

As AI continues to play a larger role in software development, Qodo emphasizes the critical need for quality validation tools that function independently of the code's origin. Friedman compared Qodo’s role to that of observability providers like Datadog, aiming to monitor and verify code quality across various environments. By embedding itself within platforms like Google Cloud, Qodo seeks to establish a neutral, cross-platform standard for validating code integrity in an era where AI-driven development is becoming increasingly prevalent.

This collaboration not only reflects Qodo's innovative approach to software development but also underscores the importance of maintaining quality as the integration of AI in coding practices becomes the norm. As Qodo continues to refine its tools and expand its offerings, the implications for both startups and established enterprises are significant, potentially reshaping the landscape of software development and quality assurance.
