Vacheron Constantin Unveils Temporis Duo Grand Complication Watch

In a significant advancement in high horology, Vacheron Constantin has introduced the Temporis Duo Grand Complication Openface, a remarkable addition to the brand's esteemed lineage of minute repeaters and intricate complications. This timepiece was unveiled on June 30, 2025, marking the first release from the Les Cabinotiers department since the acclaimed Watches and Wonders event earlier this year, where the Solaria Ultra Grand Complication was awarded Watch of the Year.

The Les Cabinotiers division of Vacheron Constantin represents the zenith of fine watchmaking, dedicated to crafting exceptional, bespoke timepieces. Named after the 18th-century artisan workshops in Geneva, this department embodies a rich tradition that harmonizes artisanal craftsmanship with pioneering mechanical innovations. Each creation is meticulously hand-finished, often showcasing grand complications, artistic enamelling, or intricate engravings. The Temporis Duo Grand Complication Openface stands as a testament to Vacheron Constantin’s over 270 years of expert craftsmanship, reflecting the brand’s motto, "Faire mieux si possible, ce qui est toujours possible" ("Do better if possible, which is always possible").

The watch features notable complexities, including a legible subdial at 9 o’clock with delicate 18-karat rose gold hands, set against a frosted ring with grey NAC-coated markers. The main sapphire dial, measuring a mere 0.5 mm in thickness, offers an unobstructed view of the intricate mechanics within. The tourbillon, housed within a Maltese cross-shaped cage, serves as the seconds indicator at six o’clock. A striking green central chronograph seconds hand imparts a contemporary flair, complementing a 30-minute counter at 1:30, while the central seconds hand employs a rattrapante function, allowing for precise timing.

Christian Selmoni, Director of Style and Heritage at Vacheron Constantin, commented on the complexity of the watch, stating, "The combination is very rare in wristwatches, essentially for reasons of volume and precision. More commonly in grand complication wristwatches, we observe minute repeaters paired with perpetual calendars. This configuration demands considerable expertise, but integrating a chronograph with its clutch and column-wheel system—duplicated for the rattrapante—poses an even greater challenge in terms of miniaturization."

The watch is rendered in 18-karat pink gold, which not only provides aesthetic appeal but is also functionally ideal for a chiming watch, offering unmatched roundness and clarity of tone. Despite the current trend towards smaller watches, the Temporis Duo Grand Complication maintains a full 45 mm case to accommodate its intricate workings. The manual Caliber 2757 S, featuring 696 components, is housed within a compact movement, utilizing advanced materials such as titanium and electro-formed nickel-phosphorus wheels, ensuring a commendable 50-hour power reserve while the chronograph is operational.

Selmoni elaborated on the complexity of the Caliber 2757, noting, "The fact that Calibre 2757 comprises 696 parts explains not only the technical complexity of the complications but also the tremendous amount of work required for the decorative finishes. This is an aspect of watchmaking in which Vacheron Constantin never compromises."

The introduction of the Temporis Duo Grand Complication Openface underscores Vacheron Constantin's pivotal role in perpetuating the tradition of grand complications in modern watchmaking, as the brand continues to push the boundaries of creativity and skill in horology.
