Fisher Center for Alzheimer’s Research Welcomes New Leadership Team
In a significant development for Alzheimer’s research, the Fisher Center for Alzheimer’s Research Foundation has appointed Sapna Wadhwani as its new Fundraising and Program Managing Director, and Dr. Lorenzo Bartolucci as its Program and Fundraising Writer. Announced on July 29, 2025, in New York City, these appointments come at a pivotal time as the Foundation celebrates its 30th anniversary in the fight against Alzheimer’s disease.
The Fisher Center Foundation has been instrumental in advancing research into Alzheimer’s, a condition that affects millions globally. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), approximately 55 million people worldwide live with dementia, with Alzheimer’s being the most common form. The Foundation's mission is to understand the disease's causes, enhance care for those affected, and ultimately find a cure.
Wadhwani brings a wealth of experience to her role, having previously served as Development Director at HealthRight International and as Associate Vice President at CarePoint Health Systems. "I’m honored to join the Foundation and bring my experience to the fight against Alzheimer’s, connecting more donors with our vision and amplifying the breakthrough discoveries of our researchers," Wadhwani stated. She holds a Bachelor’s degree from Rutgers University and has an impressive background in journalism, having won an Emmy as a segment producer at Fox News Channel.
Dr. Bartolucci, who earned his PhD in Comparative Literature from Stanford University, aims to translate complex Alzheimer’s research into compelling narratives. He expressed enthusiasm about his new role, particularly given his personal connection to the disease through family experiences. "It’s an incredible opportunity to honor the stories of those affected by the disease while advancing the science that may ultimately change their lives," he remarked.
Lucretia Holden, Executive Director of the Fisher Center, praised the new leadership duo, stating, "Their extensive expertise in fundraising and communications will be instrumental in amplifying our efforts to raise awareness and secure vital support for Alzheimer’s research."
The Foundation has invested millions in Alzheimer’s research across the globe and operates one of the largest scientific facilities dedicated to the disease at The Rockefeller University. In recent years, research has made significant strides; however, funding remains critical to sustaining these advancements. According to a report published by the Alzheimer’s Association in 2023, funding for Alzheimer’s research still lags behind that for other diseases with similar prevalence, highlighting the ongoing need for effective fundraising strategies.
Wadhwani and Bartolucci’s appointments signify a strategic move towards enhancing the Foundation's outreach and donor engagement. Their combined expertise in both philanthropy and research communication is expected to drive innovative fundraising initiatives, including direct mail campaigns and online appeals, aimed at broadening the support base for Alzheimer’s research.
The Fisher Center Foundation’s continued commitment to understanding Alzheimer’s, improving patient care, and working towards a cure is underscored by its leadership changes. As the organization embarks on this new chapter, it remains focused on its vision of a future where Alzheimer’s is nothing but a memory.
