Gaza Strikes Intensify: Civilian Casualties Rise Amid Ongoing Conflict

In a stark escalation of military activity, at least 69 individuals have been reported killed in Gaza due to intensified Israeli airstrikes on Thursday, according to rescue agencies. Among the dead are many women and children, notably following a strike on a school that had been converted into a shelter for displaced families in Gaza City. The airstrike, which occurred early in the morning, resulted in 15 fatalities, as reported by the Hamas-run Civil Defence agency. The situation is exacerbated by the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza, where recent reports indicate that over 57,130 people have died since the onset of the conflict following Hamas's attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, which resulted in approximately 1,200 Israeli fatalities and the abduction of 251 others.

The humanitarian organization operating in Gaza, the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), reported that it has distributed over one million food boxes, although it has faced criticism for its operations and methods. The GHF has been accused of contravening humanitarian principles, which has led to a refusal of cooperation from the UN and other aid organizations.

As of now, the IDF has indicated it is analyzing reports of civilian casualties and is taking steps to learn from these incidents to mitigate future harm. IDF spokesman Brigadier General Effie Defrin stated, "The reports of allegations of extensive casualties in the aid distribution centres are lies," highlighting the contentious nature of the conflict narratives.
