Minnesota Lawmakers Targeted: Survivor and Husband Shot 17 Times

In the early hours of Saturday, a shocking shooting incident in Minnesota has left a state senator and his wife as survivors after being struck by a total of 17 bullets. State Senator John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette Hoffman, were attacked at their home in Champlin, while their neighbors, Melissa and Mark Hortman, tragically lost their lives. Yvette Hoffman, who sustained eight gunshot wounds, expressed her devastation over the incident, stating, "We are gutted and devastated by the loss of Melissa and Mark. There is never a place for this kind of political hate."

The attack occurred around 2:00 AM on Saturday, with police reporting the shooter, identified as Vance Luther Boelter, disguised as a police officer. The gunman initially targeted the Hoffmans before moving on to the Hortmans' residence in Brooklyn Park, approximately eight miles away, where he fatally shot the couple. Following the attack, officers exchanged gunfire with Boelter, who managed to flee the scene, prompting a manhunt that has extended beyond Minnesota’s borders.

Authorities have classified the incident as politically motivated, with Boelter's target list reportedly containing names of several Minnesota Democratic officials, including Governor Tim Walz and Congresswoman Ilhan Omar. A cowboy hat matching Boelter's description was also located nearby. His wife, Jenny Boelter, was briefly detained but later released after cooperating with law enforcement.
