ANA Holdings Expands Fleet with Order of 27 Airbus A321neo and A321XLR Aircraft

Tokyo, Japan, June 16, 2025 – ANA Holdings, the parent company of All Nippon Airways (ANA), has officially finalized a significant order with Airbus for 27 new aircraft, consisting of 24 A321neo and 3 A321XLR models. This announcement was made during a signing ceremony at the Paris Air Show 2025, marking a critical step in ANA's strategy to modernize and expand its fleet to meet emerging travel demands and enhance operational efficiency.

The agreement includes 14 additional A321neo aircraft for ANA and 10 A321neo plus the three A321XLR for its subsidiary, Peach Aviation. This order positions Peach Aviation as the first Japanese airline to operate the A321XLR, which boasts the longest range among single-aisle aircraft, enabling non-stop flights of up to 4,700 nautical miles (approximately 8,700 kilometers).

Koji Shibata, Representative Director, President, and CEO of ANA Holdings, expressed enthusiasm, stating, "We are delighted to have signed the firm order for the introduction of additional A321neo and first A321XLR into our group airlines. We believe that this additional introduction of Airbus aircraft will further deepen our relationship."

Benoît de Saint-Exupéry, Executive Vice President of Sales for Airbus Commercial Aircraft, highlighted ANA's long-standing partnership with Airbus, noting, "From its first order in 1987 to an order book now approaching 100 aircraft, ANA has been a long-standing customer for the A320 Family. The exciting addition of the A321XLR for Peach Aviation further underscores ANA's innovative spirit and trust in the A320 Family's unrivaled capabilities."

The A321neo, part of the A320neo Family, integrates cutting-edge technology, including new-generation engines and aerodynamic enhancements, resulting in over 20% fuel savings and a reduction in CO₂ emissions compared to previous models. The A321XLR is designed to provide flexibility for airlines, allowing them to introduce new routes or maintain existing ones, all while achieving 30% lower fuel consumption per seat than competing aircraft in its class. This capability is particularly relevant for airlines navigating fluctuating demand in a post-pandemic travel landscape.

Currently, ANA operates a fleet of 33 A320 Family aircraft, while Peach Aviation has 36 in service. The introduction of the A321XLR is anticipated to enhance their operational capabilities significantly, offering passengers improved comfort with the new Airspace cabin design, which promises to deliver a long-haul experience across all classes.

Industry analysts have noted that this order reflects a broader trend among airlines to invest in more fuel-efficient aircraft amid rising fuel costs and increasing environmental regulations. According to Dr. Michael Smith, an aviation economics expert at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, "The decision by ANA to expand its fleet with these advanced aircraft aligns with global trends towards sustainability and operational efficiency in the airline industry."

As global air travel continues to recover, ANA's commitment to upgrading its fleet with state-of-the-art aircraft is expected to position the airline favorably in a competitive market. The implications of this order extend beyond immediate operational benefits, potentially influencing future route planning and strategic partnerships as the airline seeks to capture a larger share of the recovering travel market.

In conclusion, ANA Holdings’ recent order for 27 Airbus aircraft not only enhances its operational capabilities but also demonstrates the airline’s commitment to sustainability and customer service excellence. The future of air travel is set to evolve significantly as airlines like ANA introduce more efficient and environmentally friendly aircraft into their fleets.
