China Mobile and Huawei's AI Core Network Receives Best Innovation Award

Shanghai, China - On June 19, 2025, during the Mobile World Congress (MWC) Shanghai, China Mobile and Huawei were jointly awarded the GSMA's Best AI Innovation in Asia Award for their pioneering AI Core Network solution. This recognition underscores both companies' commitment to advancing technological innovation in the telecommunications sector, particularly within the realm of artificial intelligence (AI) and core networking.

The AI Core Network, heralded as an industry-first solution, exemplifies the integration of AI technology with 5G advancements, thereby facilitating unprecedented connectivity among individuals, households, industries, and AI systems. This convergence is expected to redefine the operational landscape of telecommunications by enhancing service delivery and operational efficiency.

The development of the AI Core Network unfolds in two distinct phases. The initial phase involves the construction of a 5G-A intelligent core network equipped with AI agents, significantly enhancing the network’s intelligent capabilities and enabling the implementation of advanced intelligent services and operational management. This phase also addresses critical challenges related to computing power and energy consumption faced by user devices through the integration of computing and network resources.

The subsequent phase will see the evolution of the core network into what is termed the 'Agentic Core,' characterized by self-generating, self-optimizing, and self-maintaining capabilities. This advanced network architecture is designed to dynamically adjust to the diverse and real-time personalized service requirements of users.

As a testament to the practical applications of this technology, China Mobile has successfully implemented innovative services such as Visualized Voice Calling, Fun Calling, and Real-time Translation across its network. Additionally, the Intelligent Personalized Experience (IPE) solution has been deployed in several provinces, facilitating a shift from traffic-based to experience-based monetization for operators.

George Gao, President of Huawei’s Cloud Core Network Product Line, highlighted the significance of this integration, stating, "Integrating AI into the core network is a defining feature of the mobile AI era. The AI Core Network will provide a fertile ground for innovative services, accelerating the shift from intelligent connectivity of things to intelligent connectivity of AI agents. We aim to collaborate with China Mobile and industry partners to foster more innovative services, empower various industries, and create substantial business value."
