John (Jack) Niland: A Life Remembered in Balla, Co. Mayo

On June 15, 2025, John (Jack) Niland passed away peacefully at his home in Cartron, Balla, County Mayo, surrounded by his loving family. His death marks the end of a cherished life, predeceased by his parents, Tom and Nora (née Connor) Niland, as well as his brother, Paddy Joe, and sisters, Maureen McLoughlin (née Niland) and Martina Loftus (née Niland). Jack is survived by his devoted wife, Sarah, and is mourned by his daughters Fiona Prenty (née Niland), Rebecca Connor (née Niland), and sons John and Tom. His legacy continues through his adored grandchildren and great-granddaughter, alongside son-in-laws Damian and Colm, daughter-in-law Caroline, and a wide circle of siblings, relatives, and friends.
The funeral arrangements have been made with care and respect. Jack will be reposing at Balla Funeral Home (F23 EC67) on the evening of June 17 from 5 PM to 7 PM, allowing family and friends to pay their respects. A funeral mass will be held on June 18 at 12 noon at St. Cronan’s Church in Balla, followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery. In consideration of the family's wishes, the house will remain strictly private, honoring their time of mourning.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to Mayo Roscommon Hospice, reflecting Jack's spirit of giving and community support. Michael Durkan, the funeral director in Balla, will facilitate these donations.
