RATHANNA, Ireland – The Blackstairs Children’s Theatre recently enchanted audiences with two performances of 'The Pied Piper of Hamelin' and 'The Sad Queen' at the Rathanna Community Hall, showcasing the talents of local schoolchildren. The event, which took place over two evenings, featured students from two different age groups, with the junior class comprising children aged six to eight and the senior class including those aged nine to twelve.

Under the direction of renowned Irish playwright and poet Darren Donohue, the productions attracted a full house, reflecting the community’s strong support for local arts initiatives. 'The Pied Piper of Hamelin' cast included Breanna Campion as the narrator, with notable performances from Molly Delaney, Sadhbh Dunne, and Emilia O’Toole portraying the iconic rats. Maryann Grennan took on the challenging role of the Pied Piper, while other characters included a mayor, policewoman, and town crier, each adding depth to the classic tale.

In 'The Sad Queen,' the cast was led by Ruby Walsh Hynes as the narrator and Kara Rose Whitford in the titular role, alongside a diverse group of characters that brought the narrative to life. The performances not only showcased the children's hard work and dedication but also highlighted the importance of community engagement in the arts.

Darren Donohue, who has been instrumental in nurturing young talent through Blackstairs Children’s Theatre, stated, 'The enthusiasm and creativity demonstrated by these children are truly inspiring.
