Philippine Embassy Assists 150 Citizens in Israel Amid Violence

MANILA, Philippines — Amid escalating violence in the region, approximately 150 Filipinos residing in Israel have formally requested repatriation, as confirmed by the Philippine Embassy in Tel Aviv. Continuous airstrikes from Iran have raised safety concerns, prompting this urgent appeal. As of now, only 26 individuals have been confirmed for repatriation and are currently undergoing processing, according to a statement from the embassy on June 18, 2025.
The Philippine Embassy reported that there are over 30,700 Filipinos in Israel, primarily working as caregivers and in the hospitality sector. Recent missile attacks have affected several, with 49 individuals losing their homes and seeking refuge in temporary shelters. This group includes an infant born only eight days prior, on June 10.
Philippine Ambassador to Israel Aileen Mendiola visited the 18 Filipinos who were evacuated from a hotel that was struck by a missile. The embassy conveyed through social media that these individuals were unharmed, having reached a bomb shelter in time. However, the traumatic experience has necessitated psychosocial counseling for some evacuees.
A particularly concerning incident involved a Filipina who sustained severe injuries from a missile strike on June 15. Currently in critical condition, she requires major surgery at the Shamir Medical Center, one of Israel's leading hospitals. Additionally, another Filipino remains hospitalized at Kaplan Medical Center with moderate to serious injuries, while five others were discharged following treatment for minor injuries.
In total, 63 Filipinos have benefitted from various forms of assistance provided by the embassy, which includes temporary shelter and relief packages containing essential supplies such as food, clothing, and hygiene products. The embassy staff has remained on-site 24/7 to address the needs of affected citizens.
Simultaneously, the Philippine Embassy in Iran has issued a warning to its nationals to prepare a 'go bag' for emergencies. An estimated 1,180 Filipinos reside in Iran, many of whom are married to Iranian citizens. The ongoing conflict has led the Israeli government to declare a state of emergency, anticipating significant retaliation from Iran, especially after Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei pledged severe consequences for Israel’s military actions.
The situation remains precarious, with the potential for further developments as diplomatic and military tensions escalate in the region. The Philippine government continues to monitor the situation closely and is prepared to provide further assistance as needed.
