Formula E Reports Unprecedented Global Audience Growth in 2024-25

Formula E, the premier electric racing series, has reported remarkable audience growth across television and social media platforms for the first half of the 2024-2025 season. This surge in viewership, analyzed by Kantar Media and Emplifi, indicates that the cumulative audience is expected to exceed 500 million by the conclusion of Season 11. This growth trend is particularly significant as it denotes a broader acceptance and enthusiasm for electric motorsport worldwide.
The season commenced in São Paulo in December 2024 and will culminate in London on July 26-27, 2025. Notably, Round 2 in Mexico City, held in January 2025, attracted a staggering 44 million viewers, making it the most-watched Formula E race in history. CBS's coverage of the same event reached 11 million viewers in the United States, setting a new benchmark for the series in that market.
According to Kantar Media's latest figures, the Jeddah double-header (Rounds 3 and 4) recorded a cumulative audience of 65 million, marking the most-watched weekend in Formula E history. In France, Round 8 in Monaco saw a 25% increase in viewership compared to the previous season, while the Tokyo race weekend exhibited a 20% rise in audience numbers, indicating a growing interest in electric motorsport in new regions.
The increase in digital engagement has been equally impressive. Emplifi's analysis revealed a 13% year-over-year increase in video views and a 12% rise in social media engagement, reflecting a vibrant online community surrounding the sport. Jeff Dodds, CEO of Formula E, emphasized the significance of these statistics, stating, "The latest figures from our external providers are truly phenomenal and show the tremendous momentum behind the growth of our sport. They highlight that not only do we have world-leading technology and acceleration in the cars, but that it’s producing some of the best, most competitive racing that old and new fans can’t get enough of."
The data underscores Formula E's commitment to expanding its fan base in key markets, particularly in Mexico and the United States. As the series continues to innovate and engage its audience, it is poised to solidify its position as one of the fastest-growing motorsports globally. The increasing viewer numbers not only enhance the visibility of the sport but also reflect a collective aspiration for sustainability and cutting-edge innovation in motorsports.
Looking ahead, Formula E aims to maintain its growth trajectory by continuously providing exhilarating racing experiences and fostering a loyal fan community. The organization's strategy focuses on cultivating fan loyalty through inclusive events and competitive racing that resonates with both new and existing audiences. As the sport evolves, the emphasis on sustainability and technological advancement will remain at the forefront, ensuring that Formula E continues to captivate fans around the world.
