In a significant milestone for the upcoming World Para Athletics Championships, New Delhi has officially unveiled its mascot and logo, marking just 100 days until the commencement of an event poised to be the largest-ever Para sports gathering in India. The announcement was made during a ceremonial launch on June 20, 2025, attended by key dignitaries, including Smt. Rekha Gupta, the Chief Minister of Delhi, and Smt. Vanathi Srinivasan, a member of the Legislative Assembly and Chief Patron of the National Paralympic Committee of India (PCI).

The mascot, named Viraaj, represents a spirited young elephant equipped with a blade prosthesis, symbolizing strength, optimism, and resilience. As stated by Paul Fitzgerald, Head of World Para Athletics, “New Delhi 2025 is shaping up to be one of the most engaging and inclusive championships ever. We are inspired by PCI’s vision and India’s energy, and we look forward to it.”

Scheduled from September 27 to October 5, 2025, the championships are expected to welcome over 100 countries, further asserting India’s commitment to inclusivity and excellence in sports. Smt. Rekha Gupta expressed pride in hosting such a global event, stating, “Delhi is honoured to host a global event that celebrates courage, ability, and human potential. The logo and mascot beautifully reflect the soul of India and the power of para sport.”

Kangana Ranaut, a member of parliament and the Brand Ambassador for New Delhi 2025, emphasized the deeper message behind Viraaj, remarking, “It’s not just a mascot; it’s a message of confidence, strength, and representation. I am proud to be part of an event that celebrates those who inspire us with their resilience.”

The unveiling event also included remarks from Shri Devendra Jhajharia, a renowned para-athlete, who praised the logo and mascot for embodying the spirit of all para athletes, stating, “The logo and mascot reflect the spirit of every para athlete — proud, powerful, and full of possibility.”
